I didn't see this posted:

Adam Schefter
Tentative dates for NFL Draft in 2015 would be May 7-9 and in 2016 it would be May 5-7.

Adam Schefter
Looks like 2014 NFL draft will be held May 15-17. In 2015 and 2016, league year would start early March, combine mid-March.

Adam Schefter

Proposed new league year would start before combine in 2015 and 2016. Change of draft to May effective in 2014.

NFL and NFLPA are on verge of pushing back draft to May and moving up start of league year to before combine, per sources.

BOSTON -- The NFL Draft will very likely move to May, according to league sources, but to this point there has been no vote. NFL clubs were told via conference call late last week that the date could be changing, and possibly the start of the league year as well, but the teams were not provided any details and sources said there is nothing imminent in terms of changing the combine or the start of free agency.

The NFL is concerned with a conflict with Radio City Music Hall next year, with the building booked for annual Easter shows and Easter falling on the draft weekend next season. So, in the short term, that explains the imminent change. The NFL has the authority to hold the draft when it wants, without having to negotiate it with the NFLPA.

As a Spurs fan and Penguins fan, I do protest. It is bad enough the draft right now is during the first weekend of the NBA playoffs. Now it will take place during the 2nd round of the NBA and NHL playoffs.

IMO, the draft should move up a week in April to the last regular season weekend of the NBA. This way it doesn't interview with the postseason.

Not in the NFL plans...they want this to spread out so it's NFL year round.

Jan - Playoffs
Feb - Superbowl
Mar - Combine likely to be moved here
April - ProDays
May - Draft
June - OTA's
July - Training Camp
Aug - Preseason
Sept - Feb - Season

...

Exactly. They are forcing the hand of media to cover them all year long. With the bonus of having fans anticipating all of the coverage.

The period between the end of minicamp and start of training camp always feels longer than between the Super Bowl and the draft, so I'm all for this move.

Having the draft in May is not unprecedented. When the NFL first moved the draft from January, in 1977, it was moved to May. They held it in March in 1978, May again in 1979 before it moved to April in 1980.

I hate this idea. Lots of Graduations in May. You also have Mother's day, which is increasingly a weekend thing, regardless of the day it falls on because nobody has much time during the week and we all know that when Men and kids have to do something, it takes twice as long as it should.

:laugh2:

Seriously, though, I think this is a really poor move. I think they will lose audience over this. May is much more busy for many reasons. If it comes down to family or the Draft, I'm going to have to go with family. I almost have no other choice.

Dont really mind the change.

Makes sense for the NFL to change to the proposed schedule as well, to have something going on every month.
