Dallas Cowboys stalled in contract negotiations with George Pickens ahead of NFL Draft
Last updated 1 minute ago
Adam Schefter reports that the Dallas Cowboys are nowhere in negotiations with wide receiver George Pickens ahead of the NFL Draft. Conflicting rumors suggest the Cowboys may trade up from pick 12, potentially to No. 3, trade down from No. 20, or stay put rather than trading both first-round picks to move up. Discussions highlight draft scenarios including selecting a wide receiver at No. 12 or trading for Pickens later.

Stalled? When did it start?

They’re not going to sign him long term. Especially if we spend a first rounder on a WR. He’s too big of a knucklehead.

I love George Pickens' talent and effort. That said, he stated he wouldn't be interested in signing a long term deal last season. His agent wouldn't let him either. I realize it's normal to blame the FO, but in this case, I think it's incorrect.

The tag is ok.
It is absolutely not OK if you want what is best for the Cowboys. He will not report in the offseason. IMO he likely won't play week 1, but even if he does it will be after not practicing so he will be more likely to get injured and more likely to be on a snap count and not be ready for the season. He probably shows up week 10 and still isn't ready to play, isn't interested in playing hard and takes what could be a turnaround season for the Cowboys and puts a huge damper on it. Even in a best case scenario his cap hit is more than double what it would be if he were signed long term and we either repeat this all again next year or he signs next year for even more money than he would today because contracts only go up and go up quickly or we trade him and don't get fair value because everyone knows we screwed it up again and are desperate to trade the player...

The talks are going nowhere because there are no talks.

The Cowboys can use the tag on Pickens in 2027 as well if they so choose and he signs it. Back in the day Dez didn't get signed until the middle of July. Lamb didn't get signed until the end of August.

Why would Schefter or anyone else expect a Pickens deal to get done before the draft?

He certainly will play week 1.

Translation: They are keeping quiet about it, and are not commenting, therefore they are stalled. We need clicks.

He does not know anything more than anyone else does at this point.
Basically he asked if they made an progress and they said we have not spoken with George or his agent.

Then he adds all the rest to make it dramatic and drive ratings.

Not going to happen.

They have talked to George and David. He is playing on the tag. No long term deal or negotiation. It is the tag and that's it.

He certainly will play week 1.
Like all players that are assigned the tag by teams and then the team in April for no apparent reason publicly states they have zero interest in even speaking with them about a long term deal?

Learn from your mistakes for ONCE!!!!

Trade him now or sign him now. Otherwise, this ends badly
Our Current so-called GM could trade Pickens before the draft and if a deal can be made look for our curent GM to get fleeced in the deal!
