According to Adam Schefter on NFL Total Access, the Cowboys likely will not be able to afford resigning Ken Hamlin because of the amount of money tied up on other players.

Thoughts? Especially from our resident cap experts?

How do we expect to sign two first rounders next year if we can't afford to keep Hamlin?

Schefter offered no detailed explanation. He merely stated that the Cowboys had too many other expenses to retain Hamlin's services.

In other words, he was talking out his ***.

So how would trading to the top of the draft and selecting McFadden impact our salary cap, considering we still have Hamlin and Newman to sign?

Late first rounders are very cheap.

And if we want to re-sign Hamlin, there's absolutely no doubt that we can.

He is about 50/50 with his predictions. So in other words, flip a coin!

Yeah, maybe another guy in the secondary could take a pay cut to help make room for guys that actually produce. Talking about Newman of course. ;)

So what's the going rate for a very good (though not necessarily elite) free safety these days?

Hamlin is only 26 and could be a decade-long fixture at a position that has been problematic for the Cowboys in recent years.

With the drafting of Doug Free, Pat McQuistan, and James Martin, the Cowboys have contigency plans in the event of Flozell's departure.

There is some merit in what he says. That's why I wouldn't be shocked if Adams was allowed to walk... plus Jason Ferguson and T. Glenn as well.

If you want to retain the young you're probably going to have to let go of the old.

Who the hell is Adam Schefter trying to fool?

I'll wait until the resident Adam says Dallas cannot afford someone.

Fergy shouldn't be. I think he should have another 2 years. Pretty sure he caught one of Jerrys 5-year deals that Rivera and Henry got as well.

Correct me if I am wrong here but the contracts that Fergy, Henry and Rivera got were extremely cap friendly at this point.
