I'm not as up on all the info as some here but I was wondering (after watching the Pre season) that we still look pretty susceptible in our secondary ,especially on the underneath stuff.

That being said ,Do most here think it's the scheme or is it the personnel.

I just get really upset that when we put pressure on the QB they still complete alot of the underneath stuff.

Just wondering.

It is the lack of a gameplan and a mixture of personnel. I believe they just don't want folks to get hurt.

They are evaluating technique to see who has a chance to help the team .

Definetely scheme.

I was at the game and we were just giving them the flats.

Even at the end of the game when they did a roll out for the 2 pt conversion the Flats were just wide open.

Our Man to Man coverage was pretty stellar. If you tell most of our guys to guard "this guy" they can do it. It was the Zone coverages they struggled in.

I hope to see us playing people underneath more on the wide side of the field and taking away that pass. Play man on the short side of the field and just roll our coverage to the wide side.

It's mostly scheme. We play a lot of zone. Zone coverages generally rely on a pass rush. If they don't get a pass rush then the QB has enough time to decipher the zone and then know where to go with the ball. When you have that down, making the throw against the zone is easier than it is against man-to-man. The problem with man-to-man is that the reads are easier than a zone and you're much more likely to give up the big passing play.

It's preseason and the Houston game was the first time we really blitzed and the team didn't even stunt like they usually do. So they don't get pressure because they are not bringing their usual blitz and stunts packages and the QB can decipher the zone (which we are also not switching up like we will in preseason) and it's an easy throw.

Come the regular season we'll see a lot more complex blitzes and stunts and the secondary and linebackers will switch the coverage looks pre-snap. Teams usually don't do that in preseason since you don't want to expose on what you plan on doing and the goal in preseason is evaluation, not winning a game.

Jenkins is lost out there.

Which doesn't suprise me at this point considering he was playing in a man to man system in college.

I was thinking the same thing. Jenkins, although a rookie, has had a nice training camp, and is having a solid preseason. And I would say that his performance thus far has been above the rookie learning curve.

I agree with the concept (zone coverage relying on decent QB pressures) but the Cowboys appeared to be doing it wrong. They were getting consistent pressure on the QB and he was forced to make a lot of quick throws, but he was able to hit wide open players underneath,,, shouldn't the coverage be tighter? or do they not trust their pass rush?

Jenkins had a heck of a game against SD.

Apparently now when you have one little slip up in the preseason all hope is lost. He slips while covering Eddie Royal and suddenly he's "lost." Ridiculous. If you were a GM, they'd probably have to fold your team because you would cut everyone who makes one little mistake.

I am not sure but if we are sending 6 guys, I think with Neman,Pac and Henry on the field in the nickel that we should do fine man to man coverage. Even if Henry slid to FS and Jenkins came in I would be fine with it if you let Jenkins press cover.
