Man, I have to say, I feel like Dallas is killing it with some really good picks so far.

Shoonmaker is a more versatile player than people are realizing. He can move around, from the backfield, play next to the tackle, and isn't a bad route runner. And he actually has some speed. More of a developed player than Kuntz, although he doesn't have that RAS. Shoonmaker's is still really high. And he's a better football player right now, so much higher floor. McCarthy should be happy.

And our fans will love Overshown, I think. He makes plays.

You sure you want to put this out there right now? The mob with pitchforks and torches are looking for someone to go after for this draft.
Sure, whatever. I like all of these players. And I know they probably know more than me. There's two types it seems. Some who take themselves too seriously, and some who worry what other people think.

I think all of these players fit what we're trying to do.

Its not that he is bad player. It's that there were better players
TE was a need for what they'll be doing, especially a TE who can block..one who can run a 4.6 is even better. Because we need to be able to open up the seems with a tall, fast TE.

I'm cool with getting one of the better ones in round 2.

They know guard is a need. Instead of doing media interviews, the team should just do their thing in-house, worry about approval from fans later in the games.

I think they got three guys who can play this year.

I don’t get the “reach”…”took him a round early” comments. How do people know what the Cowboys board was? Strange went three picks later so it’s not like TE was wiped out. I had Schoonmaker ahead of Strange but even if I didn’t I wouldn’t be presuming I know better. The hubris is astounding. TE wasn’t even that dire a need, it’s just the draft had a heap of good ones.

Agree. I think he's a good player. I do think there was pressure to get a TE who is known for blocking, so they did that.

I don’t love the pick because I would’ve taken Hyatt. But I will say this…he’s not a bust like Escobar. He’s a better player than Schultz was…we will get a lot of actual production from this pick…I just think I would’ve went with OG/ WR.

The crowd at Jerry World will chant Schoooon when he makes a big play. Just got through watching Luke again, and I came away impressed because I watched him block isolated on Jack Campbell, and move around blocking from different angles. Dude can block for sure. Schoon has good hands and acceleration on crossing routes. Dak is going to like this guy, and he should fit in very well with the other young TEs.

Yes lol. And I think most would agree
D...I'm going to be blunt. We have nothing, zero to prove any of those players will be better than Schoonmaker. Now, of course, they COULD BE, but to flat out say here and now they will have a better professional career doesn't hold water. Hell, this is true for every player drafted, we just don't know. I'm sure many fans/posters said the same thing ( we left a better player on the board ) after Tyler was selected a year ago.

Yeah…I think he’s serious.
Let’s be honest, would anyone here have believed Torrence, Sanders, or Simpson would have been available at that spot? The issue isn’t that Schoon’s a bad player it’s that many other viable options were available.
What better option than drafting a potential starter at a position of need?

The conflicting scouting reports question at what level he'll start....Zierlein damned him with praise with the line .... " He could see action early but might need a year or so before he works himself into a full-time TE2 role."

Fans are going to ask the question 'what can he provide, that Fergushot couldnt be taught' (by way of blocking).

From this position we appear to setting up for
-many 12 Personnel sets (possibly to counter that pesky 9ers secondary sitting in deep coverage).
- We really didnt like Torrence, or believed he moved the needle (possibly already spoken to Risner??)
- MM's plans to focus on the run (with less predictable RPO's).

The positive is that we have a gameplan and what traits that help us perform....stop the run, help the run. If we add in the expected step forward from Tolbert, Gallup, Sam and Damone then we're looking good.
