Schoonmaker Can Block and Catch

Its not that he is bad player. It's that there were better players
LG was a need and had a few there to take. Yes, Luke is a jack of trades but I just don't see that much of an upgrade.
I hope that he comes in and makes me say oops my bad.

Schoonmaker was not a big name pick but with Ferguson, Hendershot and Mckeon he completes a versatile tight end room. These young kids can do everything together. Hopefully Dak trusts them enough to throw them the football.

I don’t love the pick because I would’ve taken Hyatt. But I will say this…he’s not a bust like Escobar. He’s a better player than Schultz was…we will get a lot of actual production from this pick…I just think I would’ve went with OG/ WR.
I can see this reasoning. There were a lot of good players on the board.

To me, it's apparent there's rift between MM and almost everyone else.

I'm starting not to like McCarthy more and more. I see his attitude as disrespectful to McClay.

TE was a need for what they'll be doing, especially a TE who can block..one who can run a 4.6 is even better. Because we need to be able to open up the seems with a tall, fast TE.

I'm cool with getting one of the better ones in round 2.

They know guard is a need. Instead of doing media interviews, the team should just do their thing in-house, worry about approval from fans later in the games.

I think they got three guys who can play this year.
I agree, these three guys if healthy will be playing and contributing this year. I still feel like we need so much help on the Oline, especially with the talent we will be facing within our division with the opposing Dline, only easy day was yesterday as they say.

His job is clearly on the line, I do not blame him as he has to cook with others choosing the ingredients. Not a great scenario for a head coach, Quinn is breathing down his neck no matter what he says.

Brugler had Schoonmaker ranked ahead of Strange.

Much of the draft media were obviously wrong about Torrence.
- Many mocked him in the 1st round and most had him ahead of Avila.

I think that was silly high for Torrence. I think the media dug in on his pressure stats. Its impressive to look on a stat sheet, but they got the ball fast and that protected him. He will have a difficult time with speed in the NFL

Id probably have him and Schoonmaker tiered together. Middle of the 3rd type guys. I think Torrence is an RG only, but would be good there because he will see more power than speed. Schoonmaker is a good overall TE, probably a Dawson Knox+. Not a guy Id take in the 2nd, but he will be a good player

Think the analyst on the NFL network on Torrence when he was finally picked hit the nail… he’s limited to a man scheme. They we’re looking at players like Bergeron and Mauch for the position… not some guy with the feet of an anvil!

And for an OG that is really going to limit how high you can go. In the top 30, a team wont take you without system flexibility

Rofl… go back and look where half these guys were actually drafted. There is a clear delta between media evaluation and teams evaluations. Teams also had Laporta as a 3rd and look where he went..

Schoon will be better than Schultz… book it

In his case top 60. Again, I don’t think he was ever a consideration by this team nor should he have been. You don’t pick a player who can’t perform a function then try to play him in a position that function is major role!

Man, I have to say, I feel like Dallas is killing it with some really good picks so far.

Shoonmaker is a more versatile player than people are realizing. He can move around, from the backfield, play next to the tackle, and isn't a bad route runner. And he actually has some speed. More of a developed player than Kuntz, although he doesn't have that RAS. Shoonmaker's is still really high. And he's a better football player right now, so much higher floor. McCarthy should be happy.

And our fans will love Overshown, I think. He makes plays.
:hammer:

The director of college scouting basically said on the draft show that it they chose Schoonmaker over Kraft because the Michigan TE was more ready now.

Think they might of taken Cody Mauch if he was available based on what was mentioned on the draft show.

Folks keep leaning on his RAS are really just telling you they either haven’t watched the player or don’t understand what they’re seeing.

Schooney doesn’t play to that timed speed. He has tight hips. There’s a play I’ll cut and GIF later when I have time where he takes a pass up field and tries to juke the defender in front of him. All his speed is lost when he tries to breakdown and he stumbles over his feet and gets tackled.

You like RAS?

James Hanna had one of the highest scoring metrics at the position ever. Now you tell me if he played like that.

There were better players but not better 6'5 250 lb tight ends that are nasty run blockers with soft hands that run a 4.6.

Schoon gonna be nasty, a big help to MM and the offense he wants to run.
I hope so. Was starting to wonder if Jim Harbaugh was running our draft as I also expected us to grab their K Moody.

What’s your take on Mazi Smith at 1 . I agree with your takes on 2nd and 3rd round picks . I like to think all three top picks get heavy amount of reps in 2023 . The Eagles had themselves another good draft that’s the division team and conf team to keep up with going into the season .

I can see Schoonmaker lining up in the backfield clearing brush for the RB’s or as a weapon in the flat then running over defenders . The TE spot in Dallas is young and talented now let’s utilize them MM.
