Schottenheimer hire is growing on me

You may be right about a different belief, we dont really know just yet. There are some strong indicators thats true, especially with the coaching staff hes put together.

Still the roster is a huge question mark as to if he can really do that though. Tough to run the football 30+ times if you're trailing. Also need multiple guys on the OL to step up significantly over their 2024 performances.

Just my guess, but I'm not expecting a significant scheme change on offense. As the year went on I think we saw a lot of Schottenheimers fingerprints all over the game plans and play designs....some of that being really good, and some not so much.
This year we’ll see a COMPLETELY different offense than last year. I mean jeez, an almost entirely new coaching staff? No more WCO or TCO!

I just hope they can figure out how to dumb it down for dak, like Fat Mike tried. If he calls a run on all plays, that might be a start. Let dak do what he does best: hand the ball off.

But your OC is the man leading the new coaching staff. You also didn't see a ton of player turnover on this offense to suggest that they are going in a completely different direction. You saw that on a bit on the defensive side of the football where we will clearly be seeing some different looks.

You'll for sure see some changes, but I'm not expecting much more than the typical year to year changes that teams make anyways. Really if you look back and watch some of the games on the back half of the year all the elements that Shotty talks about adding to the offense are already there. This team was about as run first as you can realistically be. We used a ton of close/bunch formations with our WRs. Motion rates were some of the highest in the league....although I don't love their usage of motion all the time. Ultimately I think Schotty had a lot more input on the offense this year than people think.

I just got done watching the Carolina game and its a great example of what I think this offense will look like this year....or at least probably 80% of it. First play of the game was 11 personnel with qb under center and TE with his hand in the ground. Perfectly balanced run/pass formation to set the tone of the game, and it continued throughout. Play action was used very well. A ton of outside zone runs kept Carolina off balance. We had some execution issues that game, but the schematics were very good overall. My biggest issue from a coaching/play calling perspective really had to do more with tendencies than anything else.

I would just anticipate offensive changes done moreso via scalpel than a chainsaw.

I'm totally with you, however... that was when Rush was playing.

I'll believe things have changed when we're going four wides and Dak isn't checking into passes all game.

I still believe Jerry's prized franchise QB will continue to get a lot of what he's comfortable with.

My fear is that you're right about this. My hope is that Schottenheimer realizes that a less is more approach with Dak makes for the best version of Dak....but that is just a hope.

Dak is a puppet of Jerry's

Dak is under NDA, Schotty is under NDA

Ceedee knows what's going on and is visibly upset on the field. He may be a typical WR diva that thinks he deserves the ball all the time...but he knows what's going on and is frustrated.

Yeah yeah...tell me he shouldn't have signed here then because his frustration on the field was before his recent contract

I do think he realizes it. I think Mike realized it. But there's a reason we still do the same things we've done since Garrett was here, and it's because that's what Dak wants. And Jerry insists that if Dak wants it, Dak gets it.

That's my best guesstimate. If that changes this year, then great, I'll give credit to Dak... and to Schotty for convincing him.

I figured we would wait at least 5 or 6 games into the season before starting to form an opinion?

However if someone already hates the pick it's because they don't trust the Process in hiring coaches here,....understandable

If they already love the pick they have to just be a Homer that loves everything the FO does.

Most of us are willing to wait.....cautiously

Lol Garrett constantly preached high character guys who loved football. This pick is no better than Garrett, might be even worse. Garrett had interest as HC for other teams when he was OC, schottenheimer hasnt
I never said that I liked the hire or wanted Schotty. I said as of last night the idea of it is growing on me. The reason it is growing on me is because for the first time I can remember the issue of culture was mentioned on the podium by an official member of the Cowboys’ organization.

Garrett- “we need to draft good character guys”
Schotty- “I want to be known as the guy that fixed the bad culture”

Those are 2 completely different messages. To my knowledge, and anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, that is the first time an official statement was made acknowledging we have a culture issue in the organization. And that statement was made with Jerry and Stephen sitting right next to him. Calling out the culture issue and not mincing words is a step in the right direction for this franchise. So for that reason, and that reason alone, the hire is growing on me.

Another thing, is it against the rules here to try to find silver linings or some positivity?

He was OC in name only. It was MM’s offense and if you don’t understand that then I don’t know what to say. AGAIN, we haven’t seen the 54 that will suit up for game 1 so don’t know where you’re going because you’re all over the place. And to say you know what the offense is going to be like based on the Carolina game? Come on man……

Honestly. I think the hire was more “we like our guys”. “Hire or sign whoever we are comfortable” with garbage from the FO.

I will be open to Schottenheimer proving me wrong though. I hope he does.

lol nobody wanted him… This ranks up there with the Dave Campo and Jason Garrett hires. It’s a joke.

I'd love for you to explain the 'OC in name only' idea to me. Honestly I think its pretty disrespectful to the man to completely invalidate his run as OC the last two year. And if you do believe that an OC for an offensive minded HC is just a title then I would expect that we wont be talking up what Klayton Adams can bring to Dallas since it'll be Schottenheimers offense.

Don't care what the final 54 looks like, after this weekend we will have a very good understanding of what the core of the team looks like. Mini camp, training camp....its mostly fluff. Its fun, dont get me wrong, but its fluff. I mean we could probably go back 100 pages on this board and have some good chuckles about what was said last July/August on here. Yes, we wont know everything until they actually start playing the games, but we know KC is going to be pretty good once again. We know New Orleans is going to be pretty bad this year. Its not super difficult to at least get a pulse on most teams around draft time. Its also not super difficult to get an idea of what the coaches are looking to do based on offseason activity. They go grab a LB like Kenneth Murray....get ready for a lot of cover 2, its where the guy excels.

And no I'm not talking about what the offense is going to be like based on just the Carolina game. I spend the bulk of the offseason rewatching tape, I can't get enough football. You can go back through most of those games later in the year and see the evolution of the offense. You can actually see some similar run designs that Shotty used while OC in Seattle. The Carolina game is simply the most recent game I watched as I've been trying to do a deeper dive on Brock Hoffman. Anything can happen and maybe I end up looking like a fool, but I feel like I have a fairly decent grasp on what the basics Schotty wants to do. I'm not sure its a massive secret.

If I have to explain the ‘OC in name only’ to you, well you left me speechless.
