I favor coaches who aren't shy about expressing their displeasure with the actions of their players. It is especially so when the players are lax in the performance of their duties. It appears there are far too many coaches opting to sacrifice a team's performance in favor of being popular with their players.

After watching the scrimmage...I can see why. Definitely felt like guys going half speed...just coasting. As a team...you will never get better doing it that way. Huge difference between game speed...and going through the motions. Anymore I think 3/4 speed or less...you're completely wasting your time.

I thought that practice they broadcast Saturday was pretty sad. Looked like they were going harder the first couple of days when they didn't have any pads on.

Maybe with the tempest in the teapot about the practice video getting out, that was intentional, who knows.

I do believe that Shotty is doing his level best to get the most out of his players. So far, they've been coddled too long by some other coaches who have been willing to see less from them. The future will either bear fruit or it won't in that endeavor. Let's hope it becomes an honest habit, well into the future!

Let's face it -- it's no easy task to turn around lazy habits that have prevailed for decades in the past. It takes great determination and savvy to encourage spoiled players to change their ways. I really hope it works. The years to follow would surely be far more fruitful if such success were to come to fruition.
