Schottenheimer praising how Guyton has looked in OTAs

:laugh:You guys thinking the play of the left tackle will make or break the Cowboys. What all-pro left tackle did the Commanders have last season?
I mean, they struck gold on their qb. without that, you hang your hat elsewhere. penei sewell was majorly important in the goff renaissance.

Better than bad news or no news at all about Guyton don’t you think? But instead you choose to take a dump on the good news.
Not really. Being objective about this type of stuff isn't taking a dump on anything, its just calling it what it is. The issue is we have low level football people on this board who take quotes like this and run with it to call other people haters whenever they try to have actual football conversations that are beyond just surface level.

You’ll never strike gold on your QB and change the entire trajectory of your franchise if you don’t even try.

Washington fans are lucky that they have an ownership group that knows the importance of the QB position.

sure. i don't disagree. just saying an LT takes on outsized importance for us.

very true, its wierd some think being skeptical with this Franchise after the run they have put fans through is hating when it should be pretty standard stuff. I dont hate the Cowboys at all, I am at a point (Probably took way longer than it should've) that they need to show me before i believe them.

Plus they went out and got them a pretty good one in Tunsil this offseason. Even with hitting the lottery on a mobile QB who could bail out bad OL play they understood the need for a LT.

Consider the source and just move on.

I'm probably being a tad overdramatic, but I think, assuming no big injuries and everyone else plays relatively close to expectations, that the entire season hinges on Guyton and/or Steele playing well. With Dak continuing to lose mobility we can't afford for him to rush throws or go deer in headlights because he's running for his life from his blind side. We can probably be a playoff team if Guyton plays well and Steele is a JAG. We cannot afford to have the tackle play we did last year and have any success. Really wish they'd go get a proven swing tackle.
I don’t think you’re too far off.

I’m optimistic for significant improvement from both guys for several reasons:
  1. Steele was better before Solari arrived and I think he’ll be better after he’s gone.
  2. Steele showed improvement late last year.
  3. Guyton was a rookie last year.
  4. Guyton was switching from right to left last year.
  5. I think the new coaches will benefit the offensive line.
  6. A renewed focus on the running game should help.

He'll have his work cut out for him once the training camp starts with pads.
He'll be facing a variety of rushers with speed and bull rush talent at DE as that is the Cowboys position strength of the whole roster.

So if ever there was to be an iron sharpens iron moment, training camp should reveal something.

If the reports are still that Guyton wins his majority of snaps then, I will become cautiously optimistic.

As of right this second his last year's film still remains a disaster.

Absolutely. I wouldn't spend this much time around here if I hated the Cowboys. I want nothing more than for them to win a championship. I'm just not going to blindly buy into everything being sunshine and rainbows every June. This team has a lot going for it right now. It also has some major issues if guys dont step up. I'm hoping Tyler Guyton turns out to be an all pro player as it solves so many issues for this offense, but OTA headlines aren't something to be celebrated outside of maybe rookies looking above and beyond expectations. For veterans I need to make sure they are in attendance and healthy....everything else is just noise this time of year.
