Schottenheimer starts off OTA with some paintball

I’m not sure why you are so concerned about a 1/2 day paintball game. There are so many other things to get worked up about before an offsite event that most every team conducts.
I’m not concerned about it, just never heard of a team opening OTA’s with a game of paintball. There’s others questioning Schotty’s approach. He’s never been a head coach at any level prior to this job. That’s concerning!

I don’t keep up with what other teams do during their OTA’s, so I wouldn’t know. What I do know is other teams do these type of things quite often. And it seems to me if you are going to do it, it makes sense to do so during the voluntary, non-contact portion before the serious business starts.

Bottom line is if he wants to use 1 day to do an organized activity in May when he already has the second most OTA days scheduled of any NFL team, I don’t see the harm. He has 9 days scheduled when quite a few only have 5 or 6 days.

It just seems like some are just grasping for reasons to be concerned. If he would have only scheduled 8 days instead of 9 and skipped paintball, would that have alleviated these concerns? At 8, he would still have been in the upper half of days scheduled. Or he could have matched Philly, Wash, Det, etc., and only scheduled 5-6 days.

You just said you don’t keep up with what other teams during their OTA’s, then said you do know other teams do these type of things quite often. You just contradicted yourself.

No one has to grasp for reasons to be concerned with Schotty as the HC. Even Jerry admitted hiring him was a risk. He was one of the last people the fanbase wanted at head coach. Many in the media questioned it. Even Michael Irvin didn’t like the hire and he’s a huge Cowboys homer.

No contradiction. All you have to do is check my earlier post where after a 2 minute search, I included articles of other teams doing paintball, escape rooms, and even Pilates.

My gut is you have your mind made up and no degree of evidence to the contrary is going to change your belief. Some people always look for faults in others, often because it makes them feel better about themselves. But to be fair, I’m not sure of your reason.

If you are concerned about Irvin’s feelings, why not also consider the newest feelings he expressed after visiting OTA’s? Is it because the newest feelings expressed don’t fit a narrative?

Sometimes a balanced opinion can be more rational than looking for confirmation bias. I’m not suggesting he is going to be good or bad. I am suggesting that the paintball hysteria is silly.

Your gut is wrong. My mind won’t be made up on Schotty until we see how we look this season. We have no choice but to give him a chance. I take it you were on board hiring him?

I don’t care about Irvin’s feelings, he’s a homer. I really don’t enjoy listening to him. We’re just wasting our time with this. I wasn’t happy about Schotty being hired but he might end up being a good HC. I wouldn’t bank on but anything is possible.

If you are withholding judgement, why are you so critical? Has there been anything he has done so far that you feel could potentially be positive?

Didn’t have a strong opinion one way or the other though I did have some disappointment. I felt like it wasn’t an inspiring hire but I will hold judgement until I see the results. I do give him credit for trying to shake things up but who knows whether it will make any difference.

If I had my choice, I would prefer a younger and more creative coach but Jerry is hardheaded and still refuses to consult me for my opinions.

I was just referring to this comment you made, I didn’t bring up Irvin. I was just asking why you highlighted Irvin’s initial feelings as justification for Schottenheimer concerns and omitted those he expressed after his visit.

And I agree that it was an uninspiring hire.

I’m a critical fan. I’ve been critical of a lot of things. I was critical of things Jimmy did after we went 1-15. You can’t make a final judgement until we see what kind of team we field this season. Nothing about Schotty makes me feel real positive. No head coaching experience at any level. He seems pretty low key which makes you wonder if the players will buy in and fight for him. There’s really nothing about his friendly, easy going, laid back demeanor that makes me feel confident that he can build a tough, physical team.

There really isn’t any point continuing to discuss it. Everyone has an opinion of Schotty. Like I’ve said we’ll see how it goes this season.

Irvin’s feelings isn’t justification for anything. I mentioned him because he’s a homer. His feelings often fluctuate. He’s predicting the Cowboys will go 12-5 with a 3 game losing streak later in the season. He wanted Deion as the HC. I’m thankful he’s not part of management. Loved him as a player but put much stock into a lot of what he says.

If you were critical of Jimmy after the dumpster fire of Tom/Tex, then all that says is that you stopped watching in 1976 after Super Bowl X.

There were reasons to be critical after going from 3-13 to 1-15. No one expected that. It made many question everything Jimmy was doing. I thought we would at least win 5-6 games in 89. To go from real bad to even worse was totally unexpected. Why would I stop watching after the loss in SB X? The Cowboys weren’t expected to be very good that season. They had just missed the playoffs the previous season for the first time since the mid 60s.

I knew year one that Jimmy and Jerry were going to win a Super Bowl.
