Schrager, Ran Carthon, Dane Brugler and Field Yates each get assigned 8 random picks in the first round.

Dane throws a bit of a curveball for the Cowboys at 12.

I would approve of this haul. Over the cries of others I suspect.

I concur.

It's going to be difficult to move out of the 12th pick. With all the top defenders gone, what can they do?

Well, they could go OT. However, with the resources already spent on the O-line.

They could go WR but, again, the cap money already dedicated to that position make the pick prohibitive.

Considering the condition of the defense, they really have no choice. Go with the defense.

Thieneman is a reach but not much. I think he is the most "stable" pick compared to the others.

we never interviewed Thieneman and there is zero buzz about him from the beat writers,we never interviewed Tyler Smith but met him at tge Combine atleast and some Beat writers had guessed he could be our pick but there is no chatter about Thieneman.

Supposedly the staff knows Thieneman and the Cowboys like him. The kid is supposed to go around 20. Like I said in another thread the Cowboys are acting like they are drafting at 6 and 39 not 12 and 20. Something is up……

Dane took the player I would have taken in this situation while mentioning that they would probably be looking to trade up.

Thieneman and Messidor. Not too shabby!

This is why moving up makes total sense

Go and get a stud defensive player. Don’t get stuck w the rest
If we get to 5: with Bain and Downs (even Delane) still available, we dont trade with the Browns and we draft Thieneman and Mesidor there would be 'pitchforks and torches' (and 'walkers' for our Akheem).

Thieneman wasnt a 1st Rd pick prior to Combine (that's taking laboratory stats over on-field performance).

Luckily, Dane is heavily suggesting a trade up.

Of course it's just media I've seen, but it just seems like most have DT going to Minnesota if he falls to 18, which of course is 2 spots before our 20th pick.
Not sure if it's just being lazy in that Harrison Smith may retire/may return and low and behold there's another white safety in the draft, or they actually like his skill set.

Bain nor Delane are in the conversation at 5

My opinion but I believe the Cowboys have it like this

Reese
Bailey
Styles
Downs

so many guys improved their stock at the Combine including Styles who was a late 1st RD guy before the Combine.

Because they just signed Jalen Thompson for 3 years who does exactly what Theineman does

There's no comparison between the Styles and Theineman's jump. Consensus Mock Draft Database hadnt had Styles lower than 17 pre-Combine.......Theineman never hit 1st Rd consideration until post Combine.

Is jumping from 17 to top 5 not comparable to second round to late teens?

17 could still be considered a 1st Rd Grader on many Boards (as its a consensus). Theinemen's jump is a whole grade, 2nd to 1st

I kind of see how you are looking at it. I don’t think the jumps are that much different. Just my opinion. Jumping from 17 to top 5 is inane too. Regardless if it’s still a fist round grade or not

17 was the lowest and that was early January. For comparison, Theinemen was in the 40's. The point isnt where they stand now, it's whether we'd be happy taking Theineman at 12 (as opposed to Delane, Bane, or Downs at 6).
For me there's no pick differential between 20 and 39 that would justify taking Theineman at 12 (considering his on-field tape put him in the 40's).
