Where does 55 come from?

I guess if they can figure it out one at number at a time it could work, but I don't see how that's possible when the subject could see the entire 5 digit number at once.

For some reason I counted 0-10 which wouldn't be possible. It's 50.

show number 0-9 once and ask is this the first number of your pin.
show number 0-9 again and ask if this is the second number of your pin.
etc
etc
etc

showing all 5 number possibilities would take a lot longer than what I suggested above.
