I think you have to take into consideration the speed at which you can show people things in order to get the response you desire. Is it something that can be flashed on a screen for 2 seconds then move on. Also, there are other things to find out with fewer variables.

For a 5 digit pin number you will only need to flash numbers 55 times by the way.

Where does 55 come from?

I guess if they can figure it out one at number at a time it could work, but I don't see how that's possible when the subject could see the entire 5 digit number at once.

For some reason I counted 0-10 which wouldn't be possible. It's 50.

show number 0-9 once and ask is this the first number of your pin.
show number 0-9 again and ask if this is the second number of your pin.
etc
etc
etc

showing all 5 number possibilities would take a lot longer than what I suggested above.
