I thought it would be interesting to see a breakdown of our scoring margin, and the scoring margin of the team that one the super bowl in the respective year. So I made one.

2013
Cowboys +0.4 (15th)
Seattle +11.1 (2nd)

2012
Dallas -1.5 (19th)
Baltimore +4.6 (9th)

2011
Dallas +1.4 (13th)
New York +1.9 (10th)

2010
Dallas -2.6 (21st)
Green Bay +9.7 (2nd)

2009
Dallas +5.6 (9th)
New Orleans +11.4 (1st)

2008
Dallas -0.2 (19th)
Pittsburgh +7.8 (3rd)

2007
Dallas +7.4 (4th)
New York +2.1 (12th)

2006
Dallas +4.4 (7th)
Indianapolis +5.3 (6th)

This team just screams mediocre, but I'll reiterate one thing, it isn't Romo's fault. He's scoring points on his end.

Agreed.

It hasn't been Romo's fault for the most part.

The fault has been a stinky pass defense... year, after year, after year.

I've never understood how with different personnel and coaching we can never get this right. Can't stop the pass to save our lives.

Yeah, I feel the same.

And it's not all pass rush issues either. There have been several seasons since 2006 when this defense was right up there in sacks, and even in those seasons the pass defense NEVER ranked as high as the team's ranking when it came to sacks– never. And the last couple years where the sacks numbers have gone down, the pass defense ranking went down that much more.

This defense hasn't had a pass defense ranking = or better than its sack ranking since the first couple years of the Parcells' era.

The corner play has been hit & miss. The safeties... Well we know all about those.

But the big problem with the pass defense that gets very little attention is just how shatty the linebackers overall have been when it comes to pass defense– just horrible.

And that's going to affect pass rush because the "hot" option is always there.

My guess is that the team never committed to a safety picture that reeled in an opponent's ability to take it deep.

That, and until the past three seasons, the secondary as a whole, wasn't being fixed.

Based on those margins, the Giants had no business winning those SBs. Probably the luckiest teams in NFL history.

Look at the lineups trotted out since Woodson left. Abysmal. Juxtapose that to recent SB winners and contenders - Sea, SF, Pitt, Balt, - way undervalued position. Totally agree
