Scott Linehan is growing on me

The worst this guy has been ranked in offensive yards is 6th in the last 3 years. The fact that he runs the same same system or at least similar to the same system as Garrett is a plus in terms of transition.

What troubles me however is that they have also had a lot of difficult converting yards into points. So I'm not seeing the upgrade here.

Other bonuses are certainly the greater deal of success running two tight ends.

I do think that we have better offensive components here in Dallas than Linehan had in Detroit. Outside of Megatron, I think we're in a much better situation, especially if Dunbar can come back healthy next year.

If we can be aggressive in picking up some defensive linemen in free agency to replace Ware, Spencer, and Hatcher, I'd be completely up for going after a running back in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft. I really don't have any faith in Randle, and I doubt we resign Murray who will be in the last year of his contract.

I have said it a few times, that we did well in the red zone for the most part in 2013....so, if Linehan can get the ball moving, the Callahan can get it across the goal line

Offensive coordinators aren't as directly tied to their various offenses' production as fans like to think, anyway. A key to the position in the first place is making use of the talent you have available to you, so it's hardly reasonable to expect a guy to do the same thing he did elsewhere with completely different talent. There's also enough that goes into protections and starting field position and whether you're playing with the lead or from behind depending on the team's defense that you can't really tell with any certainty what we're Linehan's likely to do here. Maybe he's thrilled, for example, to be running a two TE set he didn't get to run in DET. Who knows?

The best we can hope for is a guy who gets along with the players and who's got philosophical similarities with our HC. And I think we have that. He's also coming in to what's essentially a diminished-capacity OC position for a team that's got an offensive-minded HC in place. I think we'll hardly notice the impact of Linehan when it's all said and done, and it'll just be the case that JG is more comfortable with his staff.

every good coach takes what he has and makes it work. You put players in positions that are more strength than weakness. I think he'll add to the arsenal by throwing more to the RBs and for goodness sakes I hope he runs more stacked sets and picks.

Most diehard fans, myself included, tend to welcome anyone's input that might help us out of the rut we're in. In reality, the influence they have had can only be judged by the results they're able to affect. Otherwise, there'd be no need to watch the games -- we'd already know exactly what to expect. I like the fact that he's getting the approval of guys like Aikman, Roger Staubach, Moose Johnston and some of his ex-players but other than that, the results are the only thing that will render him a good choice. I just hope he's able to prove highly deserving of all of the positive accolades he's being awarded this offseason. It's really not unusual for that to occur. The Cowboys are well known to routinely hype incoming personnel. There's nothing new on that score. Show me!

are we still going to run the garrett offensive system? If so, I doubt we see all that much of a change.

Good luck with our limited cap space on that.

Replace three dlinemen. Via FA. They gonna send Corleone with a 'deal they can't refuse'? May as well do the same for CB's and safety. Sillyness.

The off season for cash strapped, crappy teams stinks. Hope is thrown to the wayside for pipe dreams.

I'm willing to give anyone a chance, he's had some success.… I just have no faith in "coaches by committee".

How is that supposed to work anyways? Linehan is calling all the plays, what is Callahan going to do in the red zone?

We're cash strapped, and more than we should be right now. The CBA and the cap penalty and some bad luck with deals like Demarcus Ware's have hamstrung us, no doubt. But we're not going to struggle to get under the cap, and we'll have room to sign a couple value VFAs.

Apart from that, the offseason is *boring* for cash strapped teams, but that doesn't mean we can't do a lot to improve the team. Your biggest growth comes from draft and CFA, anyway. And the best FA signings in veteran free agency tend to be the sorts of value contracts we're going to be able to get done. I'd honestly just as soon go through FA without a major signing in the first two weeks, anyway, and just let it come to us. It's the fact that we don't have more ammunition to be players in the draft that bums me out a bit. Needing DL like we do, the chances we can trade down much in the draft and still get our guy are pretty slim. And somehow we need to add 2-3 legitimate playmakers on defense along with depth players for the rotation.

At some point, we'll be getting close enough to a season where the cap bumps up again that we might be able to structure deals to guarantee some of the money over three years or whatever to maybe get a good player to come here for a long-term deal. Mortgaging our impending cap relief to get a higher quality player now might not be the smartest thing to do, but I'd think it'd be an option for us if not this year, then next, right?
