Scout’s Notebook: Big Battles In Pass Coverage

FRISCO, Texas – This might just be our last padded practice before the real games begin.

In anticipation of this third preseason game, the Cowboys got after each other in a competitive practice indoors at Ford Center.

As of right now, it’s hard to say what the playing assignments are going to look like for this Sunday night game against Arizona. But Thursday offered us a good glimpse of the Cowboys’ available starters in a good back-and-forth session.

Here are my notes from the morning session:

· It would have been a bang-bang play in the pocket for a DeMarcus Lawrence sack to prevent a tremendous adjusting catch by Michael Gallup. Lawrence was able to get a hand on Dak Prescott just as he let the ball fly toward Gallup, who went air in the air over the top of Chidobe Awuzie. Gallup did a nice job of tracking the ball as Awuzie was just a tick late getting his eyes around.

I really think dak and co will be ready. We need Austin to be ready to go all over the field and maybe run some. He is going to add some pop to out offense. I wish there was a way to add brown. His size and ability to go up and get the ball remind me of dez but he hasn't been practicing. I want Rico to show what he can do this next game

I hope Dak worked on his release and decision making to get rid of the ball more quickly. Depending how the OL plays, he will need to have improved upon that. But also more his accuracy as well.
Not saying this as a knock on him, but that had been issues last year. He needs to do this to prove he is the franchise QB we all want him to be.
Well I hope we all do, some may not.

We have enough talent on our OL that we should be able to still be well above average on offense even with the latest unfortunate events. I also have a really good feeling about our defense.

I confess that I made very similar comments about missing Zeke last season...I was wrong then, but I am eternally optimistic

Do we know if Dak is definitely sitting?
Or was that just coach Jones’ opinion?
