More good stuff from Broaddus. I like the WR info, especially about Guyton and Smith. 2 players I think have the shot to make the team over fan favorites Johnson and Wilson.

Only thing he mentions is something that can't really be judged as well in TC IMO. He said he was not impressed with Olawale as a blocker. Well, since you really do not have 100% full speed blocking and tackling, would not that be hard to judge from the sidelines.

Encouraged by the offense getting Olawale down the field for a 25-yard reception. Doing that a few times will make defenses have to account for him as a receiver when he's in the game.

It's also interesting to see that they have moved Taco back to the right side with Quinn out. If Charton is the starter there, who is starting in place of Lawrence for now? Hyder?

It would be nice to see Charlton come on, especially with Gregory and Quinn both out for at least a while. Of course, I don't really care who provides a pass rush from that right side ,whether it's Charlton, Armstrong or Hyder, as long as we get one. Our defense was good last year, getting a more consistent pass rush from that right side and up the middle would make it great. The Rams showed what a good offense can do if it only has to beat the line by game-planning around Lawrence.

I like the receivers above the radar this season. I don't think the the bottom of the roster receivers are going to be the difference this season in what is a "make or break season" for the coaching staff and many players.

My expectation is that Cooper continues to be great and Gallup makes a huge step to be a legitimate WR with over 1000 yds. I also want to see Cobb excel with more production than Beasley had.
The player that I am most excited about catching passes this season is Pollard. The dude can accelerate like a jet and is explosive. Cobb and Pollard maybe nightmares for opposing defenses that have to account for Cooper. If Dallas woks in Tavon, Pollard and Cobb at a fast and furious pace this team will redefine themselves into a serious contender. Go Dallas!!!

So one of the brilliant ideas our boy genius OC has come up with is the tight end screen. To Jason Witten. Great.

I kid, I kid. But I got a kick out of this: "Heath was able to...trap Witten...before Witten was able to get going." What exactly does Witten "getting going" look like?

1 more yard but comes up short for the yard you need.

Assuming they keep 6 and assuming the following:
Cooper, Gallup, Cobb and Austin are licks
Brown has 9 lives and sticks

Means the fight for spot 6 is going to be intense.

I've seen all of Taco, Hyder, Armstrong and Joe Jackson practicing on both sides.

From what I've seen, when the starters have been out there, Taco has been lining up in Lawrence's spot with Quinn at RDE. That he lined up with the starters at RDE would seem to me like he's being given first crack to hold down the job until Quinn returns.

Of course, it could be just the team rotating all the ends at each spot, but I would think if we want Taco primarily to fill in for Lawrence, we'd keep him there when the starters are out there. That he's replacing Quinn when the starters are out there seems like a change in plans.

I guess we'll see if he starts at RDE or LDE on Saturday for a better indication of what they are trying to do.

I don't think it looks good for Brown. I'd count Jon'Vea Johnson ahead of him and don't know that Guyton, Wilson and Davis aren't as well.

In the more recent videos, I'm seeing Taco at RDE and Armstrong at LDE when the DTs are Woods & Hill or Collins.

Then Joe Jackson and Hyder often still against the starting OL but with DTs like Ross and Covington.

There was one sequence with Taco and Armstrong at DE and Hyder as one of the DTs.

A lot of no name WRs but the one I know is Ced Wilson and I expect him to ball

I think it's possible that Jon'Vea Johnson and Guyton have been slightly over-hyped.
- I have seen several drops by J.Johnson.
- The catches on long passes by speed WRs gets a lot of attention in a camp setting because it's flashy.
- A player like Cedrick Wilson on the other hand, just gets open and blocks.
- They've been doing more with WR blocking (similar to the Rams) than in the past.
- On one interesting play they had Wilson come across the backfield and block a backside defender coming into the backfield.
- I think they can keep Reggie Davis on the practice squad.

Noah Brown is a different issue.
- They really like him as a blocking WR.
- Defenses stay in Nickel with Brown vs Base if a 2nd TE replaces Brown.
- Brown crushed some Strong Safeties last season on run plays and won a fair share of blocks against LBs.

If Zeke returns, then I think they might use Pollard like a blocking WR.
- In college Pollard often blocked either as a WR or as a 2nd RB.

I have seen some drops by Johnson, but he's also making plays and already pretty high up in the pecking order. Not as sure about Guyton. Has Brown even practiced because I don't think I've heard his name called in any of the clips or reports I've seen. I think Wilson could end up in that role this year.

It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. The rookies/younger players are intriguing but could disappear in the preseason games and end up being no more than practice squad players. Although I still predict that Johnson makes the 53.

I haven't noticed Hyder being used much at DT. I thought when we acquired him he would be primarily a pass rushing DT. Of course, with no Lawrence, Quinn or Gregory, we need him more right now at end.

His real success in the NFL was as a 4-3 DE in 2016.
- He had 8 sacks as a rotational DE (only 2 starts that season).

He missed 2017 with and injury and the Lions had switched to a 3-4 by the time he returned in 2018.
- He played a 3-4 DE in 2018.
- In obvious passing situations he play Head-Up over the Center in a 3-man pass rush alignment.
- The 3-man pass rush being the inverse of a 3-4 with hand-down outside pass rushers and 2 LBs in the gaps.

Hyder both in camp and with the Lions looks like a better outside pass rusher than Crawford.

Crawford is probably the better inside player of the two.

I just want to see them in the preseason games. It's difficult to evaluate WRs from training camp videos, IMO.

Brown is on the PUP list. He had a knee scope not long before camp.
- The Rams put a strong emphasis on integrating WRs into their blocking scheme.
- There are some similar elements between the Rams and Boise St. with Moore at QB.
- Moore reportedly really wanted Pollard in the draft.
- There are some similar elements between Memphis and the Rams/Boise St.
- Moore reportedly was more involved in the "meaningless" game 16 play calling.
- I think he called the plays in that game. It was noticeable different than others.
- In that game Brown was used more and there was a big emphasis early on motion with Brown.
- More motion than in other games with Brown. He sometimes repeated the set-motion-set sequence up to 3 times.
- Pollard often blocked in college.
- Pollard and possibly Cedrick Wilson could be what pushes Brown off the roster more than J.Johnson/Guyton/etc..

I don't disagree with any of this.

Without Rico the Cowboys might go 6 deep at WR this year.

The battle for the roster spots after the top 3 will be really something to watch the next few weeks.

I agree here as well. I think Johnson makes the team as a pure speed receiver, but that only gives us five (Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Austin and Johnson). The sixth spot comes down to Wilson/Brown/Guyton. I don't think we go seven, but it will depend on what these players show.

I acknowledge that Johnson also has not accomplished anything yet, but he's clearly caught the eye of the staff. He could blow it, though, in the preseason with drops. I don't think his ability to get open is in doubt.
