They key untold story here and I'm glad they mention it is Jaylon Smith. We're talking about a generational linebacker before his injury. The Cowboys STILL haven't put him on IR...

As much grief as we give the front office for the resources they have put towards our defense (much deserved), they really made a good pick here (potentially). He can advance this defense tremendously.
Well, he's on the NFI list or something like that. He doesn't count towards the roster so they don't have to put him on IR.

Yea it's looking like we had the best draft in the nfl this year. Well so far. I think Anthony brown is going to be a hell of a corner

Agree. The Bears had opportunity to connect on passes and our DB's did a very good job limiting the big gainers

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy how the young players have performed but Julius Jones was anointed as the next great thing by fans and in San Francisco, Kapernick was handed those anointing oils and he's barely a backup at this point...

It's totally fair but what Dak is doing at a high level is just classic NFL football..

Kaepernick was killing people with zone reads and making big pass plays off of it.. So was RG3.

He's sitting in the pocket reading the defense and finding the open man.. When nothing is there he has the ability to run.

Good or bad, you really do need to wait few years and see how the players turn out.
Wilcox and Hitchens were considering great value picks during their rookie year and look how they turned out.

Agreed. This draft looks real good. Anytime a club can get a starting QB with their 5 pick someone is doing something right.
Or the Raiders saving us from ourselves by selecting Cook who would've been our choice; thanks for the assist!:D I love Dak but we would've taken him earlier if he was really deemed "special". Similar to how we landed Martin. Worked out for us that Shazier was gone, etc.

Agreed. Prescott has been a huge surprise, at least to me. I am hoping he keeps developing and becomes the leader the club really needs.

It's still waaay too early to tell, but any draft in which you potentially nab your future franchise QB is a success, irregardless of whether your 2nd rounder pans out or not.

I'll be honest, knew little to nothing about him and thought the FO was just placating fans. We were overdue some luck in the middle rounds and am certainly glad it looks we have our future QB; I like everything about him so far.

Well. Honestly at the time he was drafted I really thought it was just another wasted pick. I mean the ink on Prescott was not that great and I hoped the club with that 4th pick would have grabbed one of the highly regarded QB's. Anyway, Prescott has been very impressive and now l am glad the club drafted. Funny old world ain't it!!

The draft looks great because they lucked out on Dak. They graded him as a 4th rounder and wanted to draft Conner Cook ahead of him. I don't think he should get credit for anything more than that, when it comes to Dak.

Outside of Dak:
Elliott's been about what most expected, but started a little slow
Smith was a huge reach, but could go either way
Collins has been okay, but is only starting due to suspensions
Tapper is on IR
Brown has only played 70 snaps and only due to injury

It's far too early to give McClay and the rest of the FO kudos for this class. We had the 4th overall pick and a top 5 pick in each round. Of course we're going to get some talent. But, again, the only reason this draft class looks anything but average is Dak, which they lucked into.

...and 3-4 quality defensive starters in one draft. Wow.

Couldn't you say this about every team who drafted 3-4 defensive players? What have any of our rookie defensive players done to suggest they're quality starters? Couldn't you just as easily say we could have 0 quality starters, based on what we've seen to this point? Starting due to injury or suspension isn't really an accomplishment. The article makes it sound like Collins and Brown earned starting gigs in camp.

I consider luck a part of the equation. There are a lot of other players a team can pick. Even if they do "luck" into a great pick, the team still had to pick the player, which means that someone did their homework and pick this player out of the hundreds of other players the team could have chosen.

That is almost word for word what Tony Dungy said at the halftime show of the Bears game. The thing I loved was that after saying it, he finished with "The Bears just don't have an answer for Prescott".

I think that's fair. We were the first of 30 teams to draft him, so they do deserve credit there. But we're still talking about what looks like an historic anomaly. If we didn't land that comp pick, the draft doesn't look anything but average, considering where we picked in each round.

So again, I do concede your point: We picked him and he's a stud. But I don't think that one, lucky pick makes a great performance on his part. Kind of like the guy in fantasty leagues who wins it all by picking up Beckham off the wire last year. Good job, but you got lucky and it could have been anyone.
