Scouting department disaster

Blueprint for beating the Cowboys:
1. Run the ball down their throat.
2. Dominate time of possession.

When the bleep are they going to find a way to stop the run. If you can't do that, you have NOTHING! Draft the right players, trade for the right players, set up a scheme that works for their skills. Not that they'll do that. We'll have another hyped offseason next year, designed to get us hopeful, only to disappoint us AGAIN.

How does this compare to other teams?

There is no doubt their drafting has been horrible. Just look at the defense and you can see.

I wonder, if people are coming around to the fact that trading Micah Parsons was a huge mistake. Jerry sold you the story that it was either Micah or a bunch of other players and you bought it. Since then he signed guys and traded for guys like Q Williams, George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. It was never about the money with Micah. It was always about Jerry's feelings. Now we have no pass rush at all and he has used two high draft picks on Ezeiruaku and Lawrence. Lawrence looks like he could be a player, but he is not Micah Parsons.

Once again, why not keep Parsons and trade for a defensive tackle like Q Williams or even sign one as a free agent?

The thing is though they are also an awful pass defense as well allowing an NFL worst 124.8 passer rating to opposing QBs which for context is higher than any player has ever had in a season in NFL history. They cant stop the run, they cant stop the pass, they cant get stops on 3rd down, they cant force turnovers (only team with 0 INTs in NFL and they played an extra game), they give up the most yards per play, and the best thing you can say about them is that they are 26th in red zone defense. That is their best stat this year.

Will McClay is very overrated. Then again. How much power does he have.
I think there was a time he had sway, but Jerry and Stephen have worn him down like they do everyone else. Now he's just doing what he's told. The last several drafts have been bad across the board.

Ouch. They might be as bad as the 1976 Bucs defense.

THIS. DOUBLE AND TRIPLE LIKES TO INFINITY AND BEYOND.

This is the absolute primary reason for the defensive failure for however many years you want to research it.

Get somebody who knows how to properly evaluate defensive players and the turnaround will be blatantly obvious and fast.

The current defensive scout team is not the answer.
Nor are the current defensive players with the exception of 3, possibly 4 if they re-sign Porter.

That's it.
I'm going to maintain the fact HBCUs and small colleges are being ignored. You can't tell me there isn't a good football player performing at those levels too.

i’ve said this in a few posts. we need better scouts. we need to raid the ravens for scouts on defense. maybe they need specialist one offense one defense per region.

23,24,25 look like complete disasters. Its almost like these guys don't watch college football games and spend too much time focused on combine numbers and maybe a few clips of the players greatest moments in college football that support their opinions. Plus if you draft a guy bc he was great at one position in college, you can't move him and expect the same results. Ezeiraku won the Hendricks award in college as the nations top DE. If you don't think he can play DE in the NFL for 3 downs, you don't draft him in round 1. We got him dropping into coverage as an OLB now. Revel was a washout in college bc he couldnt stay healthy. He never developed but take him round 2 Some of this is pure common sense that somehow doesn't exist in our frisco bubble.
How about the O-LINE. How many 1st Rounders are there? LOL - and look how thats turned out too.
The OL is looking pretty dam good except for Steele. Guyton is finally playing up to his draft status. T Smith has been injured but is one of the better G's in the league. Booker is solid. Beebe is ok. Steele is the only one that needs to be let go. The offense hasn't been the problem, though they sucked against Tampa. The talent is there to be one of the elite units in the NFL, if they already aren't there. The defense is the polar opposite. Right now, we sport the worst run defense since the 1960 expansion team, and the DC looks too green for the job.

You don't know how much I appreciate this.
I have been consistently saying the core of the defensive dysfunction is because no one in Jerry's think tank war room can evaluate defensive players.
Does McClay do decently with offensive picks?
Yeah, pretty much.

BUT when it comes to defense the poor choices date back for many years.
So whatever defensive coordinator you throw out there he faces a try to make chicken salad out of chicken **** job description.

There's no edges. One linebacker and one corner, ie Porter(thats IF they re sign him)

Whatever **** the we should be doing better because we're so talented crowd is watching, they need to seriously re-evaluate "their guys".
Cuz it ain't scheme or coaching.
They just suck.
Regardless of scheme or coach.
While that list is damning, there reason Christian Parker is the coordinator is the developmental work he did in the Eagles secondary. My point is that Will McClay may very well suck but when you have 4 coordinators in 4 years, there's really no player/scheme development. We need to draft players that fit a consistent scheme and we just have not done it.

So, while I think Christian Parker sucks compared to a Flores or Bowles as a defensive mind, it's kinda hard to tell if it's the scheme, the players or both.
