I'm not sure what the point of this article is. No one said he is the "perfect" linebacker. Obviously the team saw a fit- was enamoured with his freakish physicality and gifts as a football player that fits their scheme.

You don't see the point of it? did you read it? Its an informative opinion piece giving perspective on a cowboys draft pick. This still is the place for stuff like that...right?

Great article. Really enjoyed that. If he regains his health, the Cowboys clearly got a impact player.

who ever said he was?

Let me rephrase it. He's not a top five player. And in order to be a top five pick at LB, you need to be basically a perfect prospect. Many national guys said he could have been the #1 pick if it wasn't for the injury, but that's just not true.

all i can get from all this so far is you don't like him so you're gonna look for fault just so you can go against the grain.

seems more about you than the player.

Its a "straw man" argument designed to create the need to perform an analysis of Smith's skill set. Setting aside his literary device, I found the article to be interesting

Here's my scouting report on Jaylon Smith and why he's not a perfect linebacker prospect and examine some of his flaws

dunno. if wrong i'm wrong but that's the way it comes across. i'm in the middle of several things so perhaps misreading. but what i have read (and maybe i'm the one putting it there so i'll re-read) seems he just doesn't like the player.

So, if Smith can return to form, do you think they would try to save some cap by cutting Lee and making Smith our next WLB?

I know the early reports from Dallas is that they'll try him at Mike first.

No. I believe He is more a replacement for 55 than 50.

No, he just doesn't believe he's a scheme fit for every defense. He does believe, according to the article, that he's a perfect scheme fit for the Will position in this 4-3, where he can maximize his speed and coverage ability.

I've got to admit. When I did watch tape on him and Myles Jack. I thought Myles Jack was the better overall player and I don't mean by a little bit. I think Sean Lee is better than Smith even though they have a lot of similarities to their game. I think Lee is stronger at the point of attack and Myles Jack is FAR stronger at the point of attack.

“He just leaps off the screen,” Marinelli said of Smith. “He is really good. He is really athletic in space, great hands, great tackler, great blitzer. He is just a real ballplayer. He fits anybody, but in our system with the way we will use him, he will be pretty special.”

“We see him as a natural [middle linebacker], but he also has a physical ability to play [weakside linebacker],” coach Jason Garrett said. “He just has some great traits. He’s a big guy. He’s 240-plus pounds. He’s long. He’s quick. He’s fast. He’s instinctive. He’s a great tackler. He’s physical. He makes plays on the ball. We don’t see that he has limitations at either of those spots. I think he’d be very natural at either one of them, and has the traits to do it.”
