My favorite Derek Carr memory is when Jeff Heath smacked him at the goal line and he fumbled out of the end zone.

One thing that makes the NFL so fun is the reality that every opponent each week is a new challenge. What happened last week does not guarantee the same performance - good or bad - will happen every week.

So this week we face the Saints, fresh off their thumping of the hapless Carolina Panthers in their opener. Last year the saints were 9-8, barely missing the playoffs by losing the NFC South to Tampa Bay. This year the saints start their third season under head coach Dennis Allen, who has a 16-18 record as HC in NO. Allen’s seat is considered warm going into year 3. An interesting side note about Allen is he is from the Dallas area, attending LD Bell High School in Hurst and later Texas A&M.

The saints are attempting to rebuild after the departures of future HOF QB Drew Brees (2020) and probable HOF HC Sean Payton (2021). Their talent cupboard is neither full nor empty. In 2023 the 9-8 saints were 14th in total offense and 13th in total defense.

ALL TIME RECORD VS SAINTS: Cowboys lead all time series 18-13.
  • This has been a streaky series. Cowboys won the first 7 games and the saints won 6 in a row in the early 2000s.
  • Since 1998, the saints are 8-4 against Dallas.
  • The Cowboys won the last matchup in 2021 played in NO, 27-17.
SAINTS STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS
  • He’s not great, but Saints QB Derek Carr is good. He’s 73-87 all time as a starter, mostly for the raiders who had mostly bad teams when Carr was there. Carr’s last start against us was in 2021 when he was with raiders' beating us 36-33 on Turkey Day. He threw for 373 yards that day so he can sling it around. And Carr was 19-23 in the Panthers game showing good accuracy.
  • RB Alvin Kamara is 29, older than Zeke, but has shown he has enough in the tank to still be above average. He rushed for 85 yards last week and is still an excellent receiver out of the backfield.
  • PR/KR Rashid Shaheed is an outstanding punt and kick returner. He was a pro bowler last year and is a real weapon in the return game.
  • Rookie LT Taliese Fuaga saints rookie LT has a bright future and had a great game against the panthers.
  • LB Willie Gay, Jr- has a SB ring with KC and has been a solid LB in NO.
WEAKNESSES
  • Both sides of the ball they are above average but not spectacular. Offensively, their OL is young and has several new members.
  • Their secondary has injuries- S Tyrann Matthews and CB Marshawn Lattimore are hurt and may not play. Both are older and not nearly as effective as years past.
  • They have had some problems last year with K Blake Grupe who is back this year after being 30-37 on FGs last year. He started off this year going 4-4 so has improved to start the year.
BOTTOM LINE: This is a game the Cowboys should win. We have a talent advantage on both sides of the ball. I expect the saints to keep it close in the first half but I think the Cowboys shou,d wear them down.
yup was "just: the panthers...
its at ATT..
That last game was full of Penalty's mostly by Brown Our CB that caused that Loss. was an odd game we should have never lost but the D was flat bad. Another Quinn debacle mostly though Anthony brown just couldn't have had a worse game. some of those penalties were bad calls.

"should win: maybe you know the thing I don't like about this place is it's odd how they talk about our team in the offseason historically bad we didn't replace our players with good enough talent we have the worst run game in the league we got too many rookies we rely on Mike McCarthy just a average coach that can't control the clock... The depth on the team is terrible lmao..

So game one we're supposed to lose and we win and we win big and now all of a sudden the Browns aren't a good team moving the goal posts now we're supposed to win when somebody says we should win it means they just want to make sure if we lose they can say how bad a loss it must be even though the Saints look damn good in game one even though their opponent allegedly might be a weak opponent even though it was game one everybody was 0-0..

Every game in the NFL is tough I don't care who the opponent is but being at home, I predict a win. Besides the fact that the drama with lamb and Prescott and the contracts they're all out of the way now news suggest me about football....lets Play!!

I do not want a repeat of David Carr's Thanksgiving performance against us!! He was throwing down the field all day, and we kept getting flagged for PI!!! It was annoying!!
Anthony brown and quinns gone so?:muttley: Penaltys ,well we cant control that but that was strange game for brown and the refs making sure the raiders won!! damn rigged NFL!:oldcouple:

My favorite memory was when the SCLSU Mud Dogs beat the University of Louisiana in the Bourbon Bowl and Bobby Boucher cried about loving his mama

Heard on a Cowboys show that the Saints are 5-1 in their last 6 games. I think the loss was to the Bucs in the playoffs (not sure they made the playoffs).

Appreciate the scouting report. I think the talent gap Dallas has over CAR plus the lack of familiarity going against a non division opponent is going to be too much. I think Cowboys win the trenches battle on both sides and that makes the difference.

John McKay!
McKay had one of the funniest lines ever spoken by an NFL coach after his early TB Bucs team had lost like their 20th straight game…

When asked by a reporter what Coach McKay thought about his team’s execution, he deadpanned, “I’m in favor of it.” One of the funniest Coach moments in NFL history.

the saints aren't going to be an easy win. they were top 15 in defense last year, specially top 10 in acoring against. their offense was pretty good too and they got better later in the year.

and they played Carolina. a bad team. when you play a bad team, you are supposed to blow them out and that's exactly what they did.

it will be tough match up on Sunday

Lol panthers, panthers, giants, bucs, rams, and falcons. They lost to the rams who were a playoff team. None of those are really good wins maybe the bucs is but meh.

Kamara has had 28 carries for 105 yards in 2 games versus the Cowboys in his career. Saints are going to get abused in this game.

Drew Brees has been gone since 2020 and Payton 2021!
It's a really bad matchup for the Saints.

Imagine placing Parsons on the inside of the LT Taliese Fuaga , and blitzing Overshown late in the snap count to the outside of the LT.

One of the comments by Broaddus and Voch is the Saints are under center 61% of their snaps. If this is the case, Carr will be retreating from the center, back turned, with two premier speedsters challenging his rookie LT.

The collision would be epic.

MP said they have only shown 3 looks so far.
Zimm has 50 in the book.
