  • I had an idea that it would be an outstanding test for this Cowboys offensive line to try and block the Dolphins defensive front, especially ends Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon. In the previous two games, protection was not an issue, but Saturday night there were too many snaps when Romo wasn't protected nearly enough
  • Dez Bryant is ready for the regular season. His ability to separate in routes is a credit to how much time he has spent working on them this offseason and through the camps.
  • This Cowboys defense is going to struggle with pass rush until they are able to get guys likeHenry Melton, Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Lawrence on the field. There is no one that offenses have to worry about with this current group.

3 penalties cost us 13-19 points...most likely.

People would be feeling a bit better without that mess.

I agree that they may have blown the call on Crawford when Carter locked the punt. 7
Then the completion inside the 10 for a first down called back by a WR lining up wrong. 14
Then Dixon giving them new life on the helmet to helmet on 3rd down. -5

Selvie is the closest and he injured his surgically repaired shoulder. If he is unable to get healthy in two weeks, the rush will be all time bad for a while.

•I am going to have a hard time releasing Ryan Williams. I understand what Joseph Randle can and cannot do, but Williams is a better player. My eyes tell me that.

Exactly. And it is not even close. You can sit around and pretend that special teams and blitz pickup make Randle the better choice, but you are simply nitpicking to come up with an excuse to keep an inferior player, both mentally and physically. Ryan Williams wants a job and is giving maximum effort to get it. We need more players like him.

•Zach Minter didn't have a good night when it came to working against the Dolphins first offense. It appeared that he struggled to get off blocks and wasn't up the field with that quickness that we observed last week against the Ravens.

Oh well. At least we have the fond memories of last week when Flounder got his nickname.

Dixon was trying to pull away from that helmet to helmet but still the call was correct. I wouldn't come down hard on him tho. I want that film to go to every receiver in the league and let them have just a little bit of fear about our defense. Is there anyone else on our defense who gives you that impression? People have been the opposite of scared of us for too long. That needs to change. We need more Dixon's and Wilcox's. Players just willing to smack the living bejeebers out of the other team. Sign me up for that!

  • I liked what I saw from Brandon Carr and his return to the lineup after missing extended time with his family. As long as defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli continues to play press coverage, he will have a solid chance to play at the level that we all believed he could.
  • I am going to have a hard time releasing Ryan Williams. I understand what Joseph Randlecan and cannot do, but Williams is a better player. My eyes tell me that.
  • Tip my scouting hat to Tyler Patmon and the way that he was able to position himself in coverage. For a slightly built player, I thought he was physical when asked to and played with really nice awareness in his responsibilities.

Depends on what you read I guess.

George Selvie hurt his right shoulder in the second quarter of Saturday’s game and didn’t return.

The Cowboys starting defensive end had surgery on his left shoulder during the off-season and was held out of some work in organized team activities. His practice time at training camp in Oxnard was limited due to a strained groin.

* Starting defensive end George Selvie injured his right shoulder. He said it’s the same shoulder he had surgically repaired in the offseason. Selvie’s injury isn’t expected to be serious, however, and the Cowboys will re-examine him Sunday. “They didn’t think it’d keep him out, but we’ll just have to watch it,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “It’s good we have two weeks on that one right there

Surgery was on his left.

George Selvie has shoulder surgery
January, 17, 2014
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- Add defensive end George Selvie to the list of Dallas Cowboys recovering from offseason surgery.

Selvie had left shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready to go for the team’s offseason conditioning program.

Selvie signed with the Cowboys after training camp began and started every game. He finished with 39 tackles and seven sacks for the season. He also had seven tackles for loss, 22 quarterback pressures, two pass deflections, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

In the first 36 games of his career with the St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers andJacksonville Jaguars, he had 57 tackles, three sacks and six tackles for loss.

He joins right tackle Doug Free (ankle) and wide receiver Dwayne Harris (shoulder) as players known to have had postseason operations.

Was I the only person who saw a lot of loose zone?

The backfield situation is just as scary as the rest of the defense.

The idea was to play more man this season, however, Mo has been injured most of the preseason, Oscan is out for the first 4 games, the team isn't sure who CB3 is, and so far none of the safeties seem like they have made any progression in terms of pass defense.

With that many question marks in the secondary, there is a good chance the Marinelli defaults back to zone because it's "safer".

Yes, which makes Broaddus' comment even weirder.

Agree. As bad as we looked they only scored 3 points off our D during the first half.

So, we're again counting on injured players bailing us out?

Where have I seen this before...

It's a process
Remember that Garrett is focusing his efforts on defense now

Just say to yourself "it's only preseason dude" and see if it makes you feel better

I love your quote:

Dallas won't have to worry about 8-8 this year.
