  • I need to take a closer look to what was happening in the middle of the field against this Cowboys defense. There were too many snaps where the Cardinals’ receivers and tight ends were able to find that space when they needed to make a play. What was concerning about those plays was that Byron Jones and Jeff Heath were the starting safeties in the game. My thought from what I have seen in these practices and previous games is that it might be a different story with Anthony Hitchens and Sean Lee dropping in those areas to help in coverage.
  • I still saw a few snaps where La’el Collins was off with his hands, but he didn’t hurt his footwork. He appeared to be in good position off the line and into his set. He wasn’t overextended and his power was where it needed to be. Where he had been getting into trouble was when he was too aggressive and it caused him to miss with those hands. Lucky for Collins, the rushers were not able to take advantage of those misses in order to put him in a poor blocking position.

I'm an admitted critic of Jeff Heath and Anthony Brown, so last night was some confirmation bias but overall, I'm a little worried that four guys we will be counting on...Heath, Brown, Byron Jones, and Chidobe Awuzie did not look great last night against reserves.

Hoping it's just the fact this game isn't a serious one. Our secondary, combined with a lack of a pass rush, may be our downfall once again.

Read the article. It said that Sean Lee wasn't in the game in which our newer linebackers didn't drop back into coverage in the middle. Thus allowing the Rams to pick us apart in the middle. When we adjusted the Rams didn't score another TD.

The OFFENSE: My biggest concern on the O-line was how Nkemdiche manhandled Joe Looney. He had success with some of the other backups as well, but Looney in particular looked out of his league vs the second year lineman. Rod Smith looks really good, & should be more involved in the offense this season. He's one tough mother who caught the ball well, & someone I know I would avoid in the open field. He also had several good, tough runs from the LOS. Every time Geathers caught the ball, I'll bet the Cards defenders were thinking. "Are you kidding me? I have to take on a 6-6, 280 lb. receiver?" I loved the way he went to the ground to catch an under thrown ball, got back up, & broke a tackle for a nice gain. If he stays on track, he is going to be a mismatch nightmare. Receivers Brice Butler & both Brian & Noah Brown played well, I thought. I don't know if Noah caught anything, but he forced penalties. On the D-line, only Damontre Moore looked like an NFL pass rusher. Tapper got stalled at the LOS all game, & had no counter to free himself. The secondary has a long ways to go. Awuzie learned a bunch with his trial by fire last night. He was picked on repeatedly, but almost exonerated himself with a pass breakup that should have been a pick six. First game jitters, so I'll give him a pass. If we can't get any more pressure on the QB this year than we did last night, those rookies in the secondary are going to have to grow up REALLY fast.

My bad. I meant to say Cardinals.

I'm just joking with you. You may have the ability to see into the future, and the upcoming Cowboys Rams game next Saturday!

I hope the secondary and linebackers cover up the middle better.
