Really impressive game from Caraun Reid at defensive tackle. This is back-to-back games where he’s been explosive off the ball and strong at the point of attack. I didn’t remember him being this disruptive at his other stops, but he sure showed up the short time he was here. It would have been nice if Reid had been in camp the entire time because I believe he would have had a shot at a roster spot with the way he performed.

Reid looked really good, I would consider him over Ward or Price. He was in better shape than expected.

Broaddus has Lenoir, Covington and Rico on the streets...likely Ward as well.

He is a poor man's Aaron Donald. I always wanted him here out of college. I'm so glad we picked him up and I hope we keep him.

I always thought Jarwin (H-back in college as well) should of been giving snaps at FB.

Cool to read they gave some snaps to Schultz at FB last night.
Especially if they were stuck on keeping 4 TE's

Will be some tough choices for sure. But we are still talking the bottom of the roster type players in a way.

Ward, Price, Reid. Whoever stays may only be on the roster for 4 weeks, until Irving returns.
Unless Tapper is gone instead.

I was told Jeron Johnson was a camp body, nothing else.

They brought him here to make the 53 and anyone who thought otherwise was smoking some nice weed.

The pregame show, on local TV both Jerry and Stephen indicated they could look for S's at cut down, but also would look at any player they feel can help the team.
Jerry said usually they look at players from the 49 to 53 range to improve upon.

Well he said, 49, 50, 51, 52 range. Guess he can't count to 53.

I thought he would be a candidate for the 53 as soon as he was signed. This team simply doesn't sign 30 year old camp bodies.

I think most assumed he would just be a body due to the timing of his signing (after the Frazier and Woods injuries).

If he can get back into game shape quickly, I think he can be a serviceable stopgap until Woods gets back.

When you look back it was utterly predictable they would barely give Iloka a look and instead look to a guy who hasn't played football in a year but at least knows Richard.

Maybe somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain I believe that they will get Thomas and this handwringing over safety will be for naught.

I find myself a bit frustrated at the lack of safety talent & depth also

I really worry that cheapness and lack of foresight at S, TE and maybe WR will haunt this team.

It still puzzles me to no end given what we see in the front seven that they wouldn't have brought in a Vacarro or Boston type. Very frustrating.

I sort of like the idea of just going with 2 RB's and a FB as long as ST is covered. Also, I am not for going with 3 QB's, I think 2 is enough. There will be enough guys on other teams practice squads to go get if the need arises. I also don't care if a guy was drafted in the early rounds or not at all, I want guys that can play on the team, so the whole "not sure they want to cut their 5th rounder already" to me is BS.

well I get that Iloka wanted to be with Zimmer but he signed for peanuts
that opportunity is just one of several that fell in their lap and they weren't aggressive enough

If this season falters due to safety play it will be hard not to place blame. They certainly had viable options at affordable rates to at least get you through preseason & see where you stood.

RB- ZEKE, RSMITH, DJAX, OLAWALE
TE- SWAIM, JARWIN, RICO
WR- HURNS, TWILL, GALLUP, BEASLEY, TAUSTIN, DTHOMPSON
OT- TSMITH, LCOLLINS, FLEMMING, EHRINGER
OGC- TFRED, LOONEY, CWILLIAMS, ZMARTIN

DE- DLAW, TACO, RGREGORY, ARMSTRONG, TAPPER
DT- TCRAWFORD, MCOLLINS, WOODS, PRICE, IRVING(WARD)
LB- SLEE, JSMITH, LVE, JTHOMAS, DWILSON, LILLARD, COVINGTON
CB- CHEETO, BJONES, JLEWIS, ABROWN, MWHITE

Broaddus opinions on players may not be very accurate, but he does have access. He is usually pretty close when it comes to roster moves.

Yep.

I know Mickey Spags is a company guy but everyone that is involved on that website gets better information then just about anyone else.

Their opinions may suck and be extremely bias towards the team but if you can read between the lines at all you can figure out a lot of things.

Honest question
Who were the affordable and worthwhile safeties available on the market?

Reid maybe?
