How come we dont run more screen passes...we ran 2 of them and they worked pretty good..id rather see more screen passes then swing passes as on those we alwayz seem to lose yards or have a incomplete pass

we usually suck at them, but they have worked when a team has blitzed from that side.

I have been a Cowboys fan for as long as I can remember, and I cannot remember when we were able to run screens well.. It has always been one of our things, we never have been a good screen team.

slightly unrelated, but on one play Barber slipped out to the right instead of blocking and was waving his hand, totally alone while Bledsoe kept looking downfield and took a sack...when you use your RB to chip on the DE, the QB needs to look at him once in a while to run past the DE and catch that little swing pass all alone for a big gain.

You must be only able to remember the Jerry Jones era of the Cowboys. Back in the Landry days, Dallas could run the screen very well. I think they started struggling with the screen pass his last couple of years with Walker as the running back. They have sucked at it since Landry left and have not been that good at it since Parcells came in and said they will run screen passes.

Nothing was working yesterday, so I don't question why more screens were used. I just question what the heck or something of that nature.

Yep, the screen pass was a staple of the Landry offense and we were very good at it mostly because we had athletic linemen who could get out and and into position quickly. We went with the trend towards bigger linemen late in Landry's tenure (thanks to the success of the Hogs) and Jimmy completed it when he came in.

To run a screen properly the OLs have to see that they have been beaten then move quickly into position on the outside while the QB retreats in the face of the passrush. It also requires a QB who is adept at throwing short passes while moving backwards and that pretty much rules out Bledsoe and Aikman for the most part although in Troy's defense we hardly ever ran a screen play when he was here so I can only assume that he wasn't too good at it.

We don't have the OLs or QB to run a consistently successful screen pass.

Very good analysis. Our O-line is a slow bulked up non mobile crew.

I was watching some analysis of the Colts O-line last week, players blocking on a 1st and 2nd level, our line can't just get there. The mobile guy on the line, Al Johnson isn't strong enough at the point of attack, our Strong guys aren't mobile enough. Bad mixture.

Floz back next year, tell LA to lose 30 lbs and not stress strenght but flexibility. Heck he could lose 30 LBS and still be in the top 10 strength wise, early 30's is not old. Al Johnson needs to add some strength, but is mobile and I'm hoping for a better year next year...Rob P lost some 30-40 lbs before the season started. He needs to maintain a lower weight and add strength...Rivera is a ??? with his age and injuries, can Peterman fill in ?

Good teams can overcome O-line injuries because of the type of players they have and the scheme they run. Our O-line coaching and developement sucks. Look at Lehr in Atlanta, having a solid year there. BP picked the wrong guy to coach our line, which is BP's fault, the buck stops there !

Good analysis. Denver and Atlanta have those small quick lines that can get out and run screens. Kansas City has big lineman that can get out and run screens. New England is probably the best and they have a good mixture of big and smaller linemen.

I agree. Larry Allen needs to get away from the weight room and do nothing but running and agility drills and try to do some yoga or something to improve his flexibility and balance. He needs to lose some upper body weight and gain strength and quickness in his legs. Lower is center of gravity and improve his lateral movement. That is not impossible to do in one off season. Well maybe for him it is, but it improve his play if he did it.
