The San Diego Chargers have announced TE Antonio Gates has agreed to terms on a six-year deal. Financial terms have not been disclosed. He will officially sign the deal Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The San Diego Chargers have announced TE Antonio Gates has agreed to terms on a six-year deal. Financial terms have not been disclosed. He will officially sign the deal Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Then it appears the Chargers won the battle of the contract.

Gates and or his agent wanted it to be a three year deal....which was what the major problem was with the negotiations...to my knowledge it was not about the money at this time but the length of the deal as he and his agent wanted a short term deal in order to get another big payday in a quick amount of time.

Updating earlier stories, ESPNews reports San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates received a six-year contract that will pay him approximately $4 million per season with an additional $9.2 million possible through incentives.
