Seahawks expect Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright back in week three

The Seattle Seahawks will be without the services of their best two linebackers, Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, in week two versus the Chicago Bears. The revelation creates a dire situation for the team considering that backup weakside linebacker Shaquem Griffin didn't perform up to standard in week one while replacing Wright. He ended up having to split time with Wagner's backup Austin Calitro to get through the game. The Seahawks hit the break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option and signed a man who plead guilty to insider trading, Mychal Kendricks on Friday to mitigate the damage. Kendricks can play middle linebacker in place of Wagner or weakside linebacker in place of Wright.

But, it appears they'll only be in the emergency protocol for a single week. Head coach Pete Carroll sounded confident both of his Pro Bowlers would be back for week three versus the Dallas Cowboys.

Wright has been out since preseason week four where he learned following the game versus the Minnesota Vikings the week prior that he needed a knee scope. He had the procedure and has been working back quickly since. Wagner's story isn't too much different despite not needing surgery. Like with his injured fellow linebacker, no signs existed during the game that he was ever injured. In fact, after the game, the man himself didn't even know he had an injury. But suddenly, he appeared on the first injury report on Thursday and didn't practice all week. Carroll expects that to change in week three.

Eh - good players but shouldn't make much of a difference in the outcome of this game.

I disagree on at least one. Bobby Wagner is a great linebacker and a real difference-maker.

But I know Pete Carroll to be a habitual liar so I take anything he says as if it's untrue. And I'd expect that Wagner would be less than 100% in his first game back from a growing injury bad enough to force him to miss time.

Of they will, they all get healthy in time to play us. Oh, well. That is the way it goes.
What about Baldwin? If he returns, that can boost their O. As their D gets a boost as well if those 2 return.

Would of been nicer had Wagner been out. lol
Yea, yea, want to play teams at their best, but I rather have Calitro try to tackle Zeke than Wagner. lol

half their Oline problems is Wilson holding the ball too long, they cant run block but they are ok in pass blocking.

He can be, but he's dependent on a DL being able to penetrate and take up blockers so that he can run free to be effective. The Cowboys in the past couple of years have been excellent at getting to the second level, and that neutralizes what he's good at. Dallas should have much more success getting Looney to the 2nd level against Seattle than they have against CAR and NYG, because SEA doesn't have the same horses on the inside.

I hope you're right, I just know that Wagner not being out there would make the Cowboys job much easier. They've had success in the past by being able to consistently run against the Seahawks, especially in their house. And given the current state of this offense, they will need to do that again to win this game.

Yea - this is definitely true lol.

I'm not trying to diminish Wagner, he's a great player. But he's not the type of player who can singlehandedly stop what this offense is trying to do. He's just not the type of player to take on and shed a guard or center.

To me, this game hinges on three things, irrespective of who is on the field for Seattle:
  1. The Cowboys need to stay out of negative yardage situations on offense. You saw the difference between Week 1 and Week 2 of how important that is, and the Cowboys need to keep the crowd out of the game.
  2. The Cowboys need to stop the run on defense. Don't give their play action game a chance to work.
  3. The Cowboy special teams need to win their phase of the game. The times that the Cowboys have lost to the Seahawks of late, they have lost the special teams battle. Can't give a struggling team an edge in this area.

It invariably seems that every team we play gets their best players back the week they play us.

And that's ok. You've got to beat the best to prove you belong.

They aren't offensive linemen, so not the help Seattle desperately needs.
