Seahawks | Team expected to match offer sheet for Hutchinson
Thu, 16 Mar 2006 14:36:53 -0800

KFAN Sports Radio AM 1130 of Minneapolis reports the Seattle Seahawks are expected to match the offer sheet for OG Steve Hutchinson Thursday, March 16. Hutchinson has a clause in his contract that he will be the highest-paid player on the team or the contract is guaranteed in full. However, the clause is not considered to be a "principle term" of the agreement, meaning the Seahawks would only be forced to match the duration and monetary structure of the deal. It is speculated this situation could be brought to an arbitrator for a final ruling.

Maybe now they won't have enough to match an offer for Josh Brown. That is if Dallas does make an offer and its built some way to make it difficult for the Seahawks.

If that Clause holds up we won't be getting Josh Brown.

Kind of hoping Mare gets released soon so we'll have more options.

Why don't they just renegotiate Walter Jones contract to make Hutch the higher paid this year. Problem solved!

Why do you say that? If the clause holds up, they probably can't afford Josh Brown.

If that clause holds up, the Hawks won't match the offer.

If they don't match the offer then they'll have plenty of money to match any offers for Josh Brown.

I see your point. I was speaking as if the Seahawks did match and then the clause held up.

If that clause holds up, they won't be able to match the offer. Not w/o making some crazy moves/sacrifices.

I wonder if the Cowboys could make a "poison pill" of their own by using his five 50+ field goals(or the seven attempts) as a likely to be earned bonus? I can't imagine Bill asking his kicker to try that many so it would be a bonus he wouldn't actually get.

An article claimed they would have to match the contract first then try to appeal the language. So they couldn't back out of it if they lose the appeal.
