Sean Lee v. Dez Bryant - Better player?

I once posted a thread here asking who would be the better player over their career - Sean Lee or Bruce Carter? - and started a vicious pillow fight.

Actually that's a more viable question...and also one that can't be answered until 3 or 4 years from now, then is still a good question even then.

Right now I don't see how anyone could say Dez Bryant is not the better player. Dez just had a pro bowl caliber season and was absolutely a game changer at his position down the stretch.

Agreed.. Sean Lee is my favorite player on the defense by far and possibly my favorite player on the entire team but he hasn't stayed healthy.. I think if you asked the teams we play who they would rather sit out it would be Dez and that pretty much sums it up

Just be glad we have them both! :toast2:

Good question. We'll probably have a better idea come December. Right now, i'd call it a toss-up.

Is comparing DeMarcus Ware to DeMarco Murray as a player a ridiculous discussion? Not really. It isn't the same position so criteria should differ from person to person but it is not impossible.

It is the same thing as comparing Jerry Rice or Barry Sanders as a player.

Is comparing DeMarcus Ware to DeMarco Murray as a player a ridiculous discussion? Yes. Yes it is. While comparing Jerry Rice to Barry Sanders is also rather useless, at least they are offensive players. Skills like avoiding tackles and handling the ball could be compared. Still a bad comparison, but not was utterly senseless as trying to compare a LB with at WR. You may as well compare Dez to Wayne Gretzky.

I'm not picking sides on this one, however who cares if the OP doesn't like Dez, a year and a half ago half the members of CZ didn't like him. Also FYI this was the first year that Dez played every game. I know I know Lee is injury prone, he has weak bones, that was demonstrated last year.

There's NO DOUBT, Dez is definately better then Miles. I'm still waiting for him to explain how he's NOT a big Dez fan.

In R2A's defense, he is on the young side (15, I think) so his perspective could be a bit skewed. He chose him username based on Austin and feels he's now tied to it. He was also very vocal about not wanting Dez when he was drafted and is sticking to his guns so to speak. Also, as described by the original post he feels that he is being persecuted for his allegiance, which he may be transferring to a dislike of Dex.

Either that, or he's just totally trolling us. :D (if so, kudos)

I think you are half right. You are right in the sense that you can not compare any attributes, skills, or playing characteristics. The only thing you can really do is compare the players relative to their position.. So if you think Dez is top 5 at his position and Lee is only top 15 at his that would give Dez the edge or vice versa.. Personally I am not a fan of comparing guys like this but the question isn't necessarily impossible to answer

This is the 3rd time I have made this poll. I do believe the results are slightly skewed due to my reputation of not being a big Dez Bryant fan but I still find this a very interesting discussion. It is clearly not cut and dry and they have both developed into elite players.

I have always and still do maintain the position that Sean Lee is a better player then Dez. I want to see how it shakes out with everyone else on the forums. The first time Dez won with 93% of the vote, the second time that fell to about 80%.

Untill Sean Lee can stay on the field on a consistant basis , it's not even close.

I agree, Dez surpassed Miles last season. That was the question right?

Lee is a better football player right now but there aren't many players in the league with the talent of Bryant. It's up to Bryant to surpass Lee in the next year or so.

So, he's more of a Miles fan then he is a Cowboys fan. There no way you can be a Cowboys fan and not like Dez, the kid is a absolute BEAST and he's maturing nicely. What's NOT to like about that?

The thing is, R2A is a child, he isn't even 18 yet.

So when you see someone who makes the posts he does at his age, you shouldn't take him seriously.

When a kid is infatuated with another man..or person, he will resent another who may be better or superior to the one he has a strong passion for.

So in this case he is showing his youth. You can only shake your head, and try to understand/remember what it was like to be a naive child.

I thought it was a great question but it was considered mean spirited. They're both Cowboys, ya know? Neither is inferior to the other.

Yep. I still don't have a clue. Both have pro bowl ability with serious injury concerns.

Carter's the athletic freak who can make plays others can't. Lee's the cerebral glue of the defense. It's pretty much a coin flip on ability and durability.

I'm not sure what the point of the poll is. We have so few young talented players, why try to perpetuate some kind of divide?

Well I guess it is slow news wise, so why not. I'm just not sure it matters who's better or if there's even a way to tell. It'd be nice if both of them could stay healthy for a season, that's for sure.

You can ask what's more important to a team: a great WR or a great ILB. There are only 22 players on a football field; it's not crazy to ask which of any two players affects the game more. In this case, both players are young, and both are going to be competing for salary cap dollars next offseason when it comes to the team setting its priorities, so, one way or another, the team's going to be addressing this very question at some level.

It's sort of a weird question because there's little basis for substantiating either position. At the same time, it's hard to reduce the thread down to 'it's Jerry's fault,' and, for that reason alone, I'll take it at this point in the long offseason.

Lee hasn't proven he can stay on the field for 16 games yet, Dez and it's not close
