PITTSBURGH -- The 2011 National Football League off-season is a mess. There is no collective bargaining agreement in place. Owners locked out the players right after the last one expired in early March; it’s now 41 days and counting.

There is so much uncertainty. Players are on their own; coaches and general managers can only hope they are following a conditioning plan. Time marches on — the fall schedule has been released and the draft will go off next week as planned — with little indication exactly when, and if, the owners and players will mend fences.

Two former Penn State standouts try not to think much about their unsettled futures.

But it’s not easy for Paul Posluszny and Sean Lee, two of the best linebackers Joe Paterno has ever developed.

Both players, who have been training here for two months with midstate performance trainer Steve Saunders, have added significant weight — and muscle — since their college days. They are carrying 240-plus pounds rather easily. However, for Poz and Lee, it’s not really about the weight at the moment.

would you like to see them playing side by side in our 3-4 defense. Do you think he can play bradie james role?
how is he in coverage?

Well, he pretty much is Bradie James. In his only two full seasons as a starter.... 2008, he registered 129 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception and 2010, 151 tackles, 2 sacks, 0 FF, 0 INTs.

Those are Bradie James numbers right there. Solid, good tackle numbers, nothing spectacular. The other two seasons, Poz has been injured and had his season shortened. We've never lost James to injury (knocks on wood), so I think I'd rather the more steady option we'd currently have.

If we signed Paul, we could call him "The Poz". Then he'd have to have the "business in front, party in the back" mullet w/ shaved lines on the sides.

That actually is his nickname.

Dang. And I was trying to be original. Oh well. I would only take Paul if he came cheap. Ain't gonna happen. I'm just happy Sean is taking care of business and has put on some muscle.

Lee is gonna be a beast!

Another one of your well thought out and informative posts PMS:star:

I am a big fan of Posluszny. The guy was both a Bednarik and Butkus Winner. Big time leader and playmaker.

But he and Lee are very similar players, with similar liabilities. Smart, instinctive, all out hustle, great work ethic but injury prone & not a freak athelete.

That said, would love to have him on the Cowboys. Just not at the expense of a vet RT, FS or SS. But Poz would be an upgrade over Bradie James.

How so? In my previous posts, I pointed out that Poz and Bradie have very similar numbers, plus Bradie has the health thing going for him. How would Poz be an upgrade? Other than age?

Cant wait for Sean Lee to get more playing time. I personally believe hes going to become an amazing linebacker.
