There seems to be some discontent over Lee weighing in at 236 pounds as a linebacker and being too light for the 3-4 front. But we need to remember that this is Wade Phillips' 3-4. Phillips likes his linebackers to be more quick than big, unlike in 3-4s like the one used by Bill Parcells.

Bradie James dropped weight once Phillips became coach and now weighs 247, according to dallascowboys.com. Keith Brooking comes in at 242.

All three players measure 6-2, so that might be the more important number to look at. Lee can add a little weight at that height, but I'm not really sure if Phillips cares if he does.

to look at that kids baby face and not expect him to fill out more is short sighted too.

Good point, he will certainly continue to fill out naturally....not to mention, newly drafted college players always add muscle and size once they get into an NFL workout program.

Don't forget that Donnie Edwards excelled in Wade's system in San Diego and he was listed at 6'2" and 224 lbs. Lee is already heavier than that. I'm sure he'll get stronger and heavier once he works with Coach Juraszek in addition to naturally filling out as he gets older.

S Lee Height: 6-2. Weight: 236

Brookin - H 6-2 W 242
James - H 6-2 W 247

Kevin Burnett - H 6-3 W 239

Good observation. I've been going thru a lot of his pics and it appears as tho he doesn't have a lot of muscle mass on his upper body. That alone makes him look small.

When you have good technique and put yourself in the right places, you can make up for size.

He is a great tackler and great getting off blocks.

Let Joe get his hands on him and see what happens. His full time job is football now, as opposed to what the NCAA rules prohibit him from doing a few months ago.

He's still a kid. Get him in a NFL off season strength and conditioning program and I bet he reports to camp near 250.

If he didn't have the neck of a gazelle or giraffe, he wouldn't look so slight.

I posted this on several threads concerning Lee's size issue:

ILB for the Steelers Lawrence Timmons is listed at 234LBS and the previously at SD, Wade had Donny Edwards as an ILB playing at around 228LBS.

Size wise, I think Sean Lee will be fine in Wade's 3-4.

When Brady James was drafted, he only weighed 5 lbs more than Lee weighs, and people have always complained about Brady's pass coverage.

Shawn Lee is plenty big enough.

One thing posters should remember is that not all college players will automatically gain significant amounts of weight and strength when they get into the pro game. Many colleges have extremely good programs; now some players as they mature can add weight and strength, but not on the level that some here think is automatic. Some players cannot add any at all without losing quickness or agility. Some coming from small programs will add a lot. But it is not automatic.

He's a Rookie that is the same hieght and just 6 pounds lighter tham starting Veteran Kieth Brooking.

Sounds like some lady's been lying to you.:D

good posts: he'll report at about 242 lbs. IMO...he'll gain 5 pounds of muscle under Coach J's tutelage. So...................there is NO problem whatsoever here. Seriously............and the guy that said he has a "giraffe" neck is misguided at best. Look at the pic, the kid is solid. He'll be virtually the same exact size as Brooking when the season starts. Bring back this thread when it happens. Overall, he's a younger version of Brooking and that as you all know is a darn good thing.
