All of the complaining and whining and moaning about Jason Garrett is very familiar to me. We had another OC who was vilified on a weekly basis and people couldn't run out of town fast enough. He was considered incompetant, stupid, no feel for the game, a moron, etc., etc., etc. According to fans on this site and others, his intelligence to call plays was barely above the level of a bacteria.
It was Sean Payton. His playcalling was scrutinized even more in Dallas than Garrett is today. He couldn't do anything right. He couldn't call a proper play if you put a gun to his children's head, according to most.
There was all kinds of "good riddance", "it's about time" and "thank God" sentiment when he left for New Orleans. There were internet celebrations galore. And laughter at the Saints for being stupid enough to hire him. He was considered the only one desperate enough to take on an impossible situation post Katrina.
We have now all witnessed the results of allowing Payton to go to the Saints.
I think we can all agree with hindsight that letting Payton go to New Orleans was a mistake. We all wish he was coaching Romo and the offense right now. But it is now all water under the bridge. He's gone and he isn't coming back.
What I see now on the internet regarding Jason Garrett is the same things I saw when Sean Payton was here. All the namecalling, the second guessing, etc. Everybody here knows how to call a game better than that idiot red head. Everybody wants him gone yesterday.
I'm not saying Garrett will have the same success as Sean Payton. In fact, chances are slim that he will. Lightening almost never strikes twice. But it's a given that Jerry felt he made a mistake in letting Payton go and he won't let Garrett go without giving him a chance to succeed or fail at the head coaching position in Dallas. Before Garrett is allowed to leave Dallas, Jerry will want to make sure he's not another Sean Payton. That's why he will be the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Just my 2 cents worth.
