What would it take to lure Payton back to Dallas from New Orleans if Parcells leaves? I assume Dallas would have to send draft picks plus cash to the Saints in return for the chance to sign Payton.

I wish Jerry would have inflated Paytons salary and made him a "head coach" promise for when BP hangs it up.

I don't hink there is any way that he comes back to Dallas because I don't believe that there is any way that the Saints let him go.

I see BP staying around this next year and then retiring.....I wouldn't be surprised to see Cowher sit this year out and recharge his batteries and JJ goes after him for 2008.

I'd be satisfied with Cowher.

Not sure that alot of people in Cowboy land wanted Payton here after the last couple of years. Simple case of not knowing what we had. I seem to remember Payton was getting reamed a lot last year when the O struggled. I really think that the QB position not being addressed really hendered what he was able to do here.

I don't think there is any way we can get him back.. I don't think he wants to come back right now anyway. He has GOD like status in NO right now.

That'll take a pick or two.

I don't know why but I think Gruden is going to get here someway or somehow.

He would never come back if it meant working back under Bill's dictatorship again.

It wont take any picks if bill comes back for 2007 and we get Cowher in 2008 season. His contract will be up after the 2007 season.

No it won't.

A lot of this hinges on how we play today. If we come out and play like we did against Philly then Bill will be gone. If we come out strong and then play well in Chicago (and hopefully beyond) Bill stays another year.

Who knows who else will be around in 2008 -- lots of rumors of Cowher to the Fins right now too. Also, the Steelers reportedly believe they own Cowher's rights for another year of coaching, whenever he comes back they may argue he's still under contract. I.e., a 5 year deal means you coach 5 years, not 4 and then take 1 year off.

They DO own his rights through 2007...so that is why he'll sit this next year out unless someone is willing to give it up for him.

There was also a rumor about BP going to Miami.....

Gruden would be an outstanding match with Romo.

Plus, then he is an offensive coach -- that means we could keep the entire defensive staff in place. :lmao2:

But they argue they own his right for another year of coaching. Sitting out a year, they will argue, doesn't fulfill the contract.

That's ridiculous....the precedent has been set by others, so that is a ridiculous statement...besides, on the contract it specifies the year anyway.

without looking at his contract we can't know the language for sure. I don't agree with it, but that's the content of several speculative stories I've seen.

Without being 100% positive, I'm as close to it as you can be. 99.99999999%. I write contracts, etc. and you ALWAYS have an ending date on it. In fact, alot of coaches will even haev Jan. 01 as a date for renewal. It benefits the coach because it is towards the end of the season and they usually have the owners where they want them. Tice's was this way last year.
