This is one of the many problems with our legal system today. Football is no reason for him to not stand trial.

Commanders | Police and Courts: S. Taylor
Fri, 21 Oct 2005 06:21:33 -0700

The Washington Post reports Washington Commanders S Sean Taylor is scheduled to go on trial on felony assault charges Jan. 17 after a continuance hearing yesterday in Miami, according to representatives for the state attorney's office. The new date would come the Tuesday after the second round of the NFL playoffs, preceding the championship games.

I don't see where it says the reason that he got a continuance was due to football.

In criminal cases, judges tend to be fairly lenient towards felony defendants in giving continuances; the idea being that if you are facing significant jail time and loss of constituional rights to liberty, then the state needs to give all the necessary time to investigate the case and mount a defense.

I got a continuance in a contract case I am working on yesterday, and it didn't have anything to do with football.

It happens, and unless you see evidence that it was just done for football reasons, the assumption should not be such.

It might just be that thet judge is a deadskins fan. If so, our legal system is a lot worse off than I though! :)

Aw, give it a rest... the prosecutor was agreeable to the continuance, so of course a judge would have no reason not to grant it...

Seems that he figures the Skins will surely have their season finished by January 17th, though... LOL...

At the first hearing for a continuance Taylors attorney said he would seek another continuance until after the football season was over. That is why I said it was due to FB

Continuances are pretty common in all cases no matter the severity. I had continuances in a simple misdemeanor case for over two years. They ended up dropping all the charges too.
