Season Review

Winning 11 games in a row in the NFL is really hard to do. I don't care what your schedule looks like.

If Romo would have won all the games Prescott did and wouldn't have lost to the Giants that means the team is heading into their season finale 15-0. I'm thinking this is fan talk and not being realistic.

That doesn't mean Romo wouldn't have given the team more of a chance in the postseason. Of course he would have. He's a better QB. You can blame that but I think the game still should have been won if our head coach only had some guts and continued to play his players throughout. Not winning the Super Bowl would have been because of Prescott. Not winning that divisional round game falls entirely on Garrett.

You realize Romo is 15-4 in his last 19 starts as a Cowboy?

If the defense was as bad as you say, then why were they able to hold GB and AR to only 1 TD in the second half and also get an int?

Whereas they gave up 3 TDs in GBs first 3 possessions.

Your theory does not hold water. The defense came out in the wrong scheme, flat, and got their doors blown off.

They went into half-time and made some adjustments. And did much better in the second half. Good enough to allow the offense to catch back up.

That defensive performance in the first half falls entirely on Marinelli and Garrett. They just ****** it all up.

I agree the defense needs help this off-season. And should be the focus. But...........damn. The defense we had in that GB game was not as horrid as many want to make it out to be.

If you give up three TDs in a row to start a game. And then give up only 1 TD from there on out, then that's a coaching problem.

They stink!!!! At least in that game they did.

I agree with some of it but I disagree that they won 13 games of an easy schedule. Pittsburgh and Green Bay are 2 of the 4 teams left and they beat both of them on the road. And maybe it was a down year for some of the teams they played but you have to be a pretty good team to win 13 games in the NFL.

Lots of points to hit on but I'll go with this one. There is a major difference between RG3 and Dak. One can read defenses and the other can't. RG3's rookie production is a result of the constant threat of him running and forcing the defense to commit to stopping that threat. It opened up the field allowing him to find open recievers easily.
And don't forget the gimmicky option read offense. Worked for Kaepernick too at first and how is he doing now? I promise you Dak is much different than RG3.

I was very upset with coaching during the game. 3rd and 2 should have been Zeke.

But after a week I am optimistic about the Cowboys next year and hopeful coaching maturity and some defensive pick ups in the off season pushes us over that edge.

You look around the league and there are teams in very bleak situations we need to take advantage of that.
hopeful coaching maturity...... lol they are what they are they are not going to change or suddenly get better.
Our biggest problem is the HC and his staff, they are mediocre, and thats all they will ever be.
You really think garrett can outcoach Bellichek ? or Quinn? heck even McCarthy out coaches him.

Are people really blaming that GB loss on Dak? Seriously?

I'm also unsure where the "incredibly weak" schedule nonsense comes from. We beat several playoff teams and fringe playoff teams in the regular season. Not exactly the cake walk you describe.

There is one major flaw with your premise that Dak should not have started this year: He only started this year because the starting QB and the back-up QB were both injured before the start of the regular season. So, in light of that, there was no choice but to start Dak. And I would suggest that he performed great. There is an argument to be made that Romo could have taken us further in the playoffs but there is no evidence to support that argument. Romo had a chance to take us to the Super Bowl in 2014 but he came up short (and, yes, it WAS a catch). Likewise, Dak had a chance to take us to the Super Bowl this year but he came up short (and, yes, the flag against Butler Brice was just ludicrous). So the question remains: who is the RIGHT QB? My little two cents says that Dak is the right QB.

They've already begun to waste Ezekiel Elliott, who should be the rookie rushing record holder. ...I'm happy we drafted him 4th overall. I am dismayed that we aren't using him like the cornerstone player that he is.

This is complete nuts. Elliott had more carries than any running back in the entire league. And by a wide margin!

Why didn't you just title this I love Tony Romo.

If the coaches thought Romo was going to lead us to the promised land they would have replaced Dak.

The bottom line is they know he's fragile, he won't last two games, and it's over, let's move on we got a franchise quarterback in a bright future.

My season review: we are incredibly lucky to have the best rookie combination maybe in NFL history it was great to watch and we will be in some Super Bowls.
If we hadn't given away the last game more records would have fallen and we would have been prepared for the playoffs

I'm a Romo guy but Dak earned and deserved to be the starter. He was unbelievable against the Packers. I thought the game was over when they were down by 18. Dak needs to be left alone when some people talk about not winning against the Packers.

At the end of the day, Romo just couldn't stay healthy. Imagine if we benched Dak for Romo and then Romo gets hurt again or plays poorly. I think Jerry and Garrett wanted Romo back in, but weren't willing to take the risk of splintering the locker room, and I'm glad they didn't.

Would we have had a more dynamic passing game against GB if Romo had taken over, say around week 12? Undoubtedly. Romo looks downfield more, and Linehan and Garrett would have ran a more aggressive offense. But as someone said above, let's not pretend that Romo always played spot-free games and would have guaranteed a win.

Dak Prescott played very well this season, and without his play against GB, we never recover from 21-3. He wasn't perfect, but there's a lot of reasons we lost that game, and you've got to go through several of those reasons before you get to Dak.

I don't think Jason Garrett is the right coach for this team. IMO, we'll never get where we need to go if he's at the helm. But when it comes to managing QBs this past season, Garrett made the right calls.

The focus can't be on the secondary this year it needs to be on the defensive line.

This I wholeheartedly agree with. Pass rush first, absolutely. We could have Deion Sanders and Darrelle Revis in their primes back there and they'd probably look average with our current pass rush.

Though I think we should also try to resign Carr to a minimal 1-2 year contract if possible. He isn't terrible, and would likely be as good or better than any other CB we'd get in free agency. I still would like us to draft a CB at some point in the draft though.
