Wow!!!!
The defense didn't just win the game. It would have been a crushing defeat if TB had scored at the end, but even then the defense actually played with passion and heart today. They left it all on the field.
Some will say the difference was Wade taking over...maybe.
Some will say the difference was a different game plan philosophy...maybe.
Frankly, I think the difference was having the young CBs in the game playing with attitude and confidence, running around making tackles...not just Jenkins and Scandrick, but Ball really played great when he was in the game as well. I'm not going to say the rookies won't make mistakes or that they are definitely better than our vet starters, but dang...those kids played without fear, took chances, looked soooo much quicker attacking. I think the young pups earned the right to play more and more, whether Henry and TNew are healthy or not.
I think their passion was contageous for the entire defense. Also, our LBs, whom I'd bashed all week as pathetic, really showed up today.
However: Thank God Romo isn't lost for the season. Brad played better this week than last week, so one should expect him to play a little better next week, but dang...he almost killed us today. He had a TD to Curtis and underthrew it...he had Owens open again and again and just wasn't accurate at all. Flozell Adams is playing like an injured half-player...if he's hurt, he's hurting us...if he's healthy, man, he's going through a pathetic spell.
We'll have a tough time hanging with NY next week with Brad running the offense, but coming back from the bye with Romo and a defense with confidence if they play well again next week, will allow us to have a chance to defeat the Skins and get back to 6-4 after the bye.
Worst thing today...besides Brad Johnson?....the punt coverage unit....those guys are killing us. I was watching online and listening to the radio...the broadcasters noted that the two top teams in the NFL on punt returns are averaging less than what we gave up today to TB...and the sad thing is the new kid is doing a pretty good job, but we don't have anyone who can get down under the freakin' punt to make a play.
Terrific win....worried about Witten, but I'm confident in the offense when we get Romo back with Roy and TO. Jenkins and Scandrick really took some strides today...no reason to rush TNew back, and Henry may have to become a depth guy. Ball looked great on one play against a double move. It's about time these young guys really got a chance to shine, and they did.
