heres what i think whats causing this. more fans are too hooked on the NCAA Tournament in March and April. some young NASCAR fans chose to go to the beaches during spring break.

May and June: fans are hooked on the NBA and NHL playoffs.

July is about the baseball all-star game and NFL training camps.

August: NFL Preseason and Little League world series

Sept through November are about NFL, college and the World Series.

meaning that the Daytona 500 is the more important NASCAR event. more important than the Chase and the All-Star race. and i agree with it. sorry to say.

Anyone who is watching the NFL Preseason instead of NASCAR probably isn't exactly a NASCAR fan and isn't someone who would be watching NASCAR if the preseason wasn't interfering.

And anyone (above the age of 16) watching Little League really needs to get a life (EXCEPTION: you have a kid of your own playing)

Whats causing it is the quality of racing sux. Its simply not worth the cost for what you get. Combine that with going to a race and it ends under caution, or the rainouts that were mentioned in the article, or the traffic, etc.

I had tickets every year that I renewed at Dover, Richmond, Charlotte, and Daytona. I don't have any of them anymore. Bottom line is the quality of the product has gone down and its just not worth what you have to pay to go. Obviously, many others feel the same way.

Im not buying into the idea that demolishing seats is a good idea. All it does is send fans the message that NASCAR wants to make it harder for fans to go and less availability for those who may want to go. Alienating people and sending negative messages is never a good idea. It will serve to drive more people away. When people leave because the product sux you don't encourage them to come back more by sending the wrong messages.

Brian France hasn't done much good for the sport. When a person doesn't have to earn their way, it shows when easy street aint so easy anymore.

Cookie cutter tracks ruined the sport and how they could not see this coming is mind boggling.
