So many unknowns this time of year. They are fun to debate but lets look at our secondary as we know it today and see how you really feel about it. If we took these players to TC & then from these we choose our roster (don't have to be the same position they are currently listed at), answer questions 1-4 below on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 = supreme confidence). In the interest of brevity, please limit any comments about your answer to each question to 1 short sentence.

1) First gut reaction, how confident we could field a top 16 secondary?

2) After reviewing the list, how confident are you that we have 4 starting caliber cornerbacks?

3) After reviewing the list, how confident are you that we have 2 reserve caliber cornerbacks?

4) After reviewing the list, how confident are you that we have 2 starting caliber safeties?

5) Once you have thought about the secondary as individuals & as a unit, how confident we could field a top 16 secondary?

Bonus question: If you could choose one player out of this group who you think might significantly outperform his past performance\expectations, who & why?

1,2 and 3...............yes.
4............................not so sure.
5............................yes.
Bonus....................Awuzie.

Same.

Sorry I did not put this in with original reply - this is a very good question(s).

I think we are good. We are in need of a safety or hoping one we have takes a big step up. Corners started to gel towards the end of the season. Barring injury which is a key term, we will see this young secondary take a huge step forward. We drafted well for corners

CB: Lewis and Awuzie look like starters. Brown has shown some nice flashes. Scandy is old.

S: All question marks. Byron has seemed viable at S.

1... not sure
2& 3... yes
4... no
5... it's because of 4 that I'm not sure if it will be a top 16 secondary. Yes the secondary played well the last four games but we weren't exactly facing the Packers, Falcons, Patriots and we did have problems covering Jimmy Graham against the Seahawks

Surprise player? Earl Thomas ;)

I don't see Jones at CB as the answer, but if that's what they do, I dang sure hope I'm wrong.

I do like him covering athletic TE's but I'm not sold on him at CB either. Slot corner maybe. Not sure how many slot corners we need though. I think his few games at CB when he first came here were unmemorable

Surefire?No..BUT I do like the progress of Kavon Frazier. He's got a lil something to his game. Maybe its his swag and hard hitting. I see him starting at some point. We do need to address it still though, via draft and free agency.

Very confident, we just need a FS and it’s Top 5 potential.

Problem is, if he's not our FS, I'm not sure we have one of the roster. Awuzie could be our future starting FS, yes, but then we need another CB.

Today? Very little confidence. Safety position is poor - one of the worst in the league.
Sad part is, we've already been through this. How in hades did we forget how much difference Ken Hamlin and Gerald Sensebaugh made, and they were very ordinary.

Yip, that's why it's all up in the air at this point. We knew we\d have to be patient with this group in 2017. I think we will have to be patient with them in 2018 too. Depends on the moving pieces and how fast they gel.

We struck gold with Lewis and Chido. Byron moving back helps the group as well. It’s our safety positions that need upgraded. Heath & Woods would be solid backups, but neither should be starting. We really need a guy like Derwin James.
