I like firefox and I used to like opera.

Chrome Google is good if you like a minimalist type browser.

IE..meh hardly ever use it.

But it is nice cause the wife does so she has her own settings on it and I have mine in firefox so it works out ok.:D

I've used Firefox for awhile now and it's working well for me. I've not encountered any "resource hog" issues, but maybe that's just me. The plug-ins I've got installed are working well for me. I recently tried Chrome and I'm getting used to to it's minimalist look. It's got some decent features that I'm still exploring, and it's pretty intuitive, but the jury's still out for me. As for IE, my wife uses it. I view it like I would view a large, cumbersome car with lots of crap on it. I just don't care for it's current form or functionality.

Are you going to go with a different browser? I find that getting rid of IE requires nothing short of explosives. The memory leak thing is interesting. Let us know how it goes.

what''s the word on Blu-Ray drive prices? You seem to find some pretty good deals on vid cards.

newegg.com is where i shop almost religiously. fair price, quick service, fast returns. in 10 years there i only recall 1 bad instance. it was *bad* but so far it was the only one.

i'd go LG or Sony on the bluray. LG i just like these days, sony, well it's their technology. newegg had a reader the other day for $89 but it didn't last long. they're back to like $119 now.

IE is a part of the system, something the gov never really cared to understand. whether or not it should be was a different argument but let me ask, what *is* an OS supposed to do?

allow base functionality for what you want to do. that evolves over time. these days i'd not build a computer at all that wouldn't go online. we're *all* online.

the OS should provide a way. if you want to use another one, the rest of the system should allow that too. you could say "but that's unfair that your computer comes with it - unfair to the others!

well ac delco must be unfair to pioneer then due to what they put in their cars, but you're free to yank it and put in another. ie is a bit different in that you can't yank it because it controls help files rendering and other functions of the OS, but you can just delete the launch icon and ignore it and put on whatever you want.

and no - i stick with IE. not because i work for MS but because it works for me. i'll put firefox and maybe chrome on to see how they look and work, but this isnt' religion to me, just software.

the leak is likely cause i had to hack a virus off my system. i kicked it's hiney around but it did leave some files damaged in the crossfire. closign IE and starting over is easier than rebuilding my system.

It really is about personal preference and choice with browsers. In tidying up my basement, I found an old floppy with Mosaic on it. It was right next to an early release of Netscape 2. I shudder to think how limited they were and how careful you had to be. Dial-up was another "wonderful" experience that added to the mystique of those days.

my IE has a memory leak of sorts and a conflict w/java. i've just not felt like tracking it down so after awhile i ned to nuke all instances of iexplore.exe and start over.

then again, i'm building a new machine this weekend. core 2 duo extreme w/8gig, 400gb system drive and (2) 1tb drives mirrored for backup purposes. will also put my bluray reader in it, but don't need a burner just yet. they're still coming down in price pretty fast.

Not going to make the jump to i7?

I never have any problems with IE, but then again I'm not an average user. Once in a blue moon it might decide to just close by itself with no clues or errors as to why, but that's extraordinarily rare.

if i have a spare machine i don't care about i may. the pc hooked to my computer i may beta test on. but on my 2 normal machines, i have to run SAM on both. this is a specific program for radio airplay and rotation software.

then my soundcard is an auzentech - took them awhile to get vista drivers ready. the software and hardware you use/have really determines if you upgrade or not. or at least when.

Oh, think you misunderstood. By i7 I meant the new Intel CPU architecture, not Windows 7. Maybe I should have said socket 1366.
