Seeing the color yellow

Jerry said he'd give nearly his life for a Super Bowl. Well Dak pretty much has Jerry's life in his hand -squeezing-waiting for Jerry to say "uncle" And its exactly what Jerry gets for doing it to himself. He placed his life in Dak's hands now Dak is squeezing his life out of him. As Cowboy fans we much realize the gig is up. We're stuck with Dak holding Jerry's Life and Dallas life for the foreseeable future. Can't trade him. Can't cut him. No way to stop the pain but extend him. So, that's why you see me on here not whining about it. I wish we could find a better quarterback. I sure wish we could find a better owner. But as I said. We're stuck with these two for the foreseeable future. Only hope we have now is to get a way better coach in here. Hope Jerry let's him coach. And hope he can coach Dak to become better in the playoffs. Regular season Dak is the man. But it's like he's green lantern and when he sees the color yellow-mainly GB...he sucks... Or Red...49ers...These two teams for whatever reason turn the whole team "yellow" when they play them. That's why I want a tough coach in the next hire to teach these yellow-red-clowns how to be tough. But Knowing ole yellow- he'll hire the softest coach he can find

Oh I disagree, they can do both. Trade him with Dak's blessing of course. They can cut him before June 1. But to do that, it takes guts and a plan to follow through on it. Jerry's problem these days is that he is afraid of letting go because he is afraid that someone else might take Dak and win it all with him. So in any bidding or negotiation Jerry is really fighting Jerry.

Hypothetical. Dak is not leaving Dallas by saying ok...I 'll leave. Pipe dream. Dallas is not going into next season taking a 60 million dollar cap hit. I doubt you could even field a team with that kind of hit coming from one player. This isn't Madden here. Jerry has no financial option but to extend Dak's contract. Fans don't want to hear it but it's Jerry's only move.

Bs, they could release Dak now and absorb the hit.

It's also entirely possible they could find a trade partner with an extension in mind.

It's a matter I'd like our next coach to weight in on, unfortunately I don't believe MM is going anywhere.

Why not?

Of course it's better to get Dak to wave his no trade clause. At then you could get a draft pick for him.
Because if you cut Dak by then you'll take a 40 to 60 million dollar cap hit!! You couldn't sign anybody. Free agent? CeeDee -nobody... You'd be lucky to be able to field a team. It's not Madden here :facepalm:Like it or not. Dak owns the field..Dak would be stupid to waive his no trade clause. On the field he may play stupid at times. But financially? He's been a genius.

They can cut him and spread it out over the next two seasons. They can bench him to try to force his hand to waive the NTC. There's options. We just don't have an owner with the eggs to do it.

No, Jerry does not have to extend his contract. Not at all.

We may not, and probably won't know anything until sometime in March as FA gets ready to start. So getting ready for it to be rehashed 50 times a day, everyday until then.

When has anybody from start of season benched a top quarterback. And yes-regular-season. Dak is a top quarterback. They want even bench a kicker if he's making top dollar. Just the way the NFL works. I'm trying to help you guys deal with the fact Dak is going to get extended. Any other move would be team financial suicide. Jerry got taken to the wood shed by Dak and his agent. Any move they try will be painful including extending him. So? How much pain can you handle???

I think the I hate Dak threads are far worse everyday. I'm neutral. Dak stays I'm fine. He goes-I'm fine. I just want to win a SB. I'm just trying to get guys to see whatever Dallas does. Extending Dak "team cap wise" is the most plausible Financially. And money runs the world and the NFL.... it's going to be a very painful bandaide pull coming-either way.

Yep. Jerry is more afraid of making a mistake on the downside than taking action with possible upside.

You guys know how much I hate Jerry as a GM. But in this instant I feel for him. No good options available. Even though he caused this scenario for himself.

It's not that easy. Giving Dak a 4 year extension at market rate solves the cap dilemma for next year but it also just pushes the same dilemma forward. Dak would have to accept a very team friendly deal to avoid the salary cap pain Dallas is looking at.

The question becomes, is the guy worth that second big dollar contract and do we take the hit now or push it down the road a few years. Either way, the hit is coming.

We've witnessed 7 different head coaches have the same results here post Jimmy.

It doesn't matter if we keep McCarthy or find someone else.

Same with firing McCarthy. Fire him after three 12-5 seasons???? Start over? New offense? New defense? What about players? Do they fit the new coaches scheme??? So, if you let McCarthy walk. You're basically starting over in some respect. Dallas is in a pickle....Coach wise and at quarterback. Not to mention an inept GM that has to figure all this out

Not getting into politics but it's like kicking the deficit down the street every year. Sooner or later the bill is going to come due. As you well said. The hit is coming. Just at what level...

The cap hit to cut/trade Dak isn't nothing, but it's likely to be around the same cost ($24m) for 2024 as an extension would be. If the Cowboys want to get rid of Dak they can pretty easily, the question becomes do they actually want to move on.
