I was just watching tapes of our first 5 games and I have to say that with a few minor changes and some time adjusting to this new coach and we could do some amazing things again next year. Our biggest problem areas would have to be.
WR - Getting older
CB - eh nothing amazing
HB - We need an elite back
I think that everything else is pritty tight knitt. I would like to see us address these issues in the offseason be it free agents or draft.
I know alot of people tend to stick up for JJ and I have given JJ the benifit of the doubt as well that he would eventualy turn into the back we drafted him to be. Now I finally have my eyes wide open and I am looking at this kid with my star studed blinders off and I have to say he needs to go. He may be a good back but just not for our system. He tries his hardest and just can't get the job done. Now I am not saying that Barber is a fulltime back by any means. I think the way he runs if he was fulltime he would be done in 4-5 years and he would probably be off and on the IR durring that period of time. If we can resign them both at a reasonable price then I say go for it. I think Jerry Jones should do whatever he has to do to draft up and grab McFadden I see him going at around #5 I don't think the Browns pick will be lower then that.

5.Cleveland Browns - Darren McFadden, (JR) RB, Arkansas
4.Minnesota Vikings - Andre' Woodson, QB, Kentucky
3.Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
2.Buffalo Bills - Jake Long, OT, Michigan
1.Miami Dolphins - Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

I think if we do manage to resign JJ (though it is highly unlikely) That we could trade him. I think we will end up drafting a CB as well alot of Mock draft sites have Justin King from PSU going in the 2nd round but I can see us picking him up at 32 since New England lost their #31 pick due to spy gate. I would like to see dallas pick up Fitz in the offseason as it is likely that Glenn will not be back next year. In the 2nd round I see us grabbing Keenan Burton a WR out of Louisville, KY. Just incase we can't resign Crayton.

So going by rumors and hype of certin players the additions I can see being made are Fitz, Dmc, Justin King, Keenan Burton, and hopefully an established CB from free agency like Samuel(No rumors here I just hope we can get him).
The players I could see leaving are JJ, Terry Glenn and most likely some of the backup corners will be let go since none of them "Stepped up" this season. And possibly Crayton with the extra time he has seen on the field.
If you have any ideas of people you think will leave or that we could draft or sign off free agency please tell me.

Miami is NOT drafting a QB. They just used a second rounder on a guy last draft, that they apparently liked so much, they passed up on Brady Quinn and took Teddy Ginn

I don't get this line of reasoning. I don't see Barber as an upright back at all. The guy gets his head down and is a bruiser. He's also built like a bowling ball so I don't see how injuries would be a problem. People peg Barber as a bruiser type back without the ability to hit homeruns. He doesn't have blazing speed but neither did a certain #22. He has all the tools to make him a great RB - explosive quickness, great field vision, runs great between the tackles, and can make defenders miss. I'll take all that over speed anyday.

As for next year's draft, I think the ownership/management looks at this team as a team built to win now. Glenn is all but done, but T.O. has at least 3-4 years left and Crayton is a rising star. JuJo is a bust IMO and I still believe Barber could be an elite every down back if given the opportunity. Our CB position isn't ideal but show me a team who is loaded at CB. Terrence Newman is our best defensive player and he has the ability to totally shut down a receiver which makes the job easier for the rest of the defense.

That being said I think the front office will take the BPA. If it's McFadden, great. If it's Desean Jackson or Early Doucet, great. Sure, we don't have much depth, but this team needs to draft a top-flight skills player who can try to have an impact immediately. I'm tired of drafting these "projects" who turn out to be busts or loading up on defensive players that deprive us of high-impact offensive players.

When's the last time we drafted a great offensive player in the first round? Of course, when you're an 8-8 or 9-7 squad and are picking middle-of-the-pack every year, it's hard to get that key player.

i can no longer be convinced on the franchise back strategy....not worth investing that many cap dollars in that position when you have Barber that needs 12 carries a game...I could see us drafting a RB on the 1st day, but NOT with a top 5 pick. We need a CB, WR, RB, interior DL/OL with our 4 first day picks

We have one of the best running offenses in the league. A serious argument can be made for NOT taking McFadden......if indeed, he were available.

Well from what I heard the whole point to the brady quinn trade was to get McFadden and he is a razorback I mean this is all but done. McFadden will be a Cowboy next year I would rather have a WR but everyone knows Jerry is in love with this kid and thats all that matters. Jason and Wade could kick and scream for a wide out and I don't think it would help. And you are wrong Barber would have no chance as a fulltime back. He is able to run people over and make people miss because by the time he gets in they are tired from stuffing JJ all day.

There's nothing rock solid as far as going after McFadden. Those are just fans hope and dreams. The big thing for the Cleveland trade was for the pick. It may very well be in the top 5. But it doesn't necessarily mean, they'll draft him.

I think thats just wishfull thinking on your part.

Dallas targeting McFadden in '08?

Go ahead and pencil Arkansas RB Darren McFadden as Julius Jones' replacement in 2008. Jerry Jones said his scouts are already working on next year's draft, but he declined to discuss specific prospects. He was asked if the Cowboys might be targeting McFadden with the pick they got from the Browns in the Brady Quinn deal. "Darren McFadden? Who's he play for?" Jerry said with a wink.

You think so? If he's drafted, great. But I don't people should set themselves up for failure like that. Maybe folks don't remember the Steven Jackson drama.

There's gonna be some broken hearts if they pass over him.

Nothing in that blurb suggests anything. He was asked and basically gave a No Comment. Besides, discussing underclassmen before the draft is a no-no.

I don't think McFadden will be available where the pick is going to fall. I'd rather go get Michael Turner as a FA to team with Barber and draft a CB & WR in the first round. If those 2 players work out, then the team's biggest needs are filled and you still have the 2nd-7th rounds to add additional depth. I don't think more than 4-5 rookies can make the team next year so I'd like to see them trade their 5th-7th round picks to move up in the draft.

Cowboys won't re-sign JJ cause they don't value that highly & no team will trade for him.

We need to add a RB who can be counted on to pick up that first down when it's 3-1 or 3-2.

We also need a CB. In today's NFL there is a real need for a #3 CB. When Newman & Henry are healthy, we are okay but that's not the case this year and we can't take a chance one of them will get injuried next year.

We also need a WR, particular a player with serious speed. TO is good but will be 34 in December. He may be in great shape but you never know when an injury might strike. Glenn is working very hard in rehab but he's 33 & knee injury could linger/end his career at some point. Now it entirely possible we might have that player on the team (Stanbach or Austin).

I'm from the school of thought that if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The running game was averaging (before Monday's game) 150+ yds...that's pretty good IMO. Why burn a first rounder (or two if they trade up) on a position where a) they're young and b) they're productive. Use those picks on true positions of need...WR and CB. Both positions are aging and will be in need of upgrades sooner than later. McFadden has the look of a STUD RB but I don't think we have the luxury of making the "sexy" draft pick when we could possibly upgrade talent at a more pressing position. Hold on to your soul Jerry and use the football acumen that Parcells left behind to do the SMART thing...keep the 'Boys on the rise!

it's time to smell the reality and understand cleveland isn't the sack of cow dung we were hoping for. derek anderson is having a great year. they're not playoff caliber i don't think but they're going to be so bad we're a lock for mcfadden.

there *are* other quality backs out there. felix jones is a great back in his own right. while i agree we need to address WR and RB - i don't think we need a dominate back when the entire trend is RB by committee. we just need a good compliment to barber.

that's all.

trade a 1st rounder to AZ for larry fitz, draft CB/RB with our other 1st and draft the other in the 2nd and let's BPA the rest of the day.
