From PFT:

In order to ensure that this one doesn't get brushed under the rug by the powers-that-be in Tennessee, we encourage all concerned readers to make your voices heard.

How, you ask? By contacting the chief law enforcement official directly:

Victor S. (Torry) Johnson III
District Attorney General
Washington Square, Suite 500
222 2nd Avenue North
Nashville, Tennessee 37201-1649
Phone (615) 862-5500
Fax (615) 862-5599

We'll post the text of the letter we send. Ideally, readers in Nashville (i.e., voters) will send in their own.

Thanks to a reader who explored the web site a bit more carefully than we did, there's a page that allows a crime to be reported. Why don't we all fill the thing out and send it in? (We just did.)

A criminal act deserves criminal charges.

I can't help but laugh at this.. yes, it was a disgraceful act, but if any of you truly believe this will go under the radar--you're crazy!

I think you are wrong -- with national TV and extensive internet coverage how can something go "under the radar"?

What is the point of sending a letter? A million people saw what happened.

Can we send a letter saying we miss Grandpa Jones and Minnie Pearl?

Not that I actually miss them but just wondering.

I would hope this is something the league and the Titians will address. I think you have to be careful about opening pandoras box when talking about pressing charges. I would hate to see players sueing each other because he hit me.

I agree...I would not be opposed to it at all. But I would rather the league make an example of Alberta just to make sure this type of thing does not happen again.

NOW on the other hand if they just let him off with the faintest of slaps on the wrist than I say bring the charges.

This type of stuff needs to be stopped one way or the other to make sure someone else does not do it thinking they will get away with a slap on the wrist.

I hate the fact that we both support the same team. I hope none of you are stupid enough to think legal action needs to be taken.

I understand what your saying I just think this is a fine line to be walking, once you start bringing the law or courts involved you leave yourself open to a big mess in the future. Like you I hope the league and Tenn address this and leave it at that.

I doubt he would sue or press for charges anyways.

IF his eye had perm damage than maybe I could see him pressing on with it, but I just don't think he would otherwise.

I would only support criminal prosecution if Gurode pressed charges. Otherwise, it should be the responsibility of the league and the Titans to levy discipline.

I really do hope it's more than four games or I'll be disappointed.

This was an act viewed by 1000s of people. Gurode doesn't have to press charges -- this is something that can be pursued without a complaint.

But I doubt it would unless there was eye damage or damage that would have effected the remainder of Gurodes career.

Not saying that it will not happen, just don't think it will.

This is not like the Hockey guy that was severly injured.

Disagree. The act is criminal. The outcome affects sentencing and the type of charge. But regardless, a shoe is considered a deadly weapon - and this wasn't just a regular shoe. This is similar to, but less severe, than shooting at someone and missing. The cops aren't just going to let it go b/c there wasn't too much damage.

You could be right...but chances are they, cops/DA, will not go after Alberta.

We will see.

Sorry but this is ridiculous.

The act is criminal no doubt, but to infer an intent to KILL?? And a shoe being a deadly weapon?:laugh2:

Shoes are considered a deadly weapon when they are used to kick someone in the head

True. As far as that goes a hand can be a deadly weapon. Hopefully this will be addressed in house with the league and Tenn. I don't want see guys being hauled into court on a facemask foul should someone get hurt. Once you run to the courts with things like this you open a door that will never be closed again and I don't think it will be good for players or the league.
