I really like the combination of Gerald Sensabaugh and Alan Ball as SS and FS over Hamlin and Sensabaugh. Ball is faster than Hamlin and can definitely cover better. Ball can play FS and CB which means the defense can play some interesting schemes without substituting players at that position. Ball may not bring the big hit, but neither has Hamlin for quite some time. At this point Ball may also be a better tackler.

They say Hamlin might be practicing tomorrow, which might indicate he is ready to return.

Convention in the NFL says you don't lose your job because of injury, but with the way Hamlin has played this season I think he should have to earn his spot back.

Split out Gates or Shockey and you believe Sensebaugh can cover them. If not, you can switch Gerald to FS and move ball to SS to go cover them. Or we can jam them at the LOS and cover them with a LB. In you basic defense, you can play a threat at TE with a S, CB or LB.

You can create schemes with the inverted cover 2 with a safety at the LOS, confusing an offense and then covering the WR with the corner going deep. You can blitz your CBs more knowing you have a CB in coverage still, like that Ball play on Randle El.

This is all predicated on Ball being able to handle his own in the run game. So far he's made one great play on the 3rd and 2 blitz against the Skins but has also missed glaring tackles that'll have people on here calling for Hamlin's head.
