Agent: Sensabaugh to test waters when free agency begins

3/9/2011 8:23:50 AM

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports Kevin Conner, agent for safety Gerald Sensabaugh, said Tuesday that his client remains open to rejoining the Dallas Cowboys but also is looking forward to testing the free-agent market once it opens.

Conner wanted to get this message across during a time of uncertainty around the NFL, given the ongoing negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players' union.

"Our main goal and objective for Gerald is to secure a long-term deal," Conner said. "We are strategically preparing for that opportunity, both with Dallas and the free-agent market. We have contingency plans for both scenarios. Gerald fully understands the nature of this side of the business."

I don't care one way or the other if he's back. Safety play has been awful for a number of years now.

Would like to have him back, but we have to improve the other safety spot.

He's going to go find out his price and then come back and talk to the Cowboys, is my guess.

Would be nice to have a pair of North Carolina safeties back there...:star:

Let's all remember what the Safety position really is. Its the worst case scenario and all else breaks down, they are then counted on to limit the damage.

Another way to look at it is from a youth football perspective. You put the most limited kids at safety. Because you hope the others don't let the play get to that point and involve them.

So we need to get the front 7 consistently putting pressure on the offense and not let the safeties become consistently involved. You see when that happened late in the season, our safeties were then able to be put in positions to succeed and made plays on the ball.

Could careless if he comes back. Any player thinking about business decisions during a play doesn't have their head in the game.

I like Sensabaugh. Yes, the secondary has struggled, but anyone who remembers how we were owned by TE's in every game before Sensy should appreciate what he has brought to the defense in that area alone. Since he's been here, I don't remember a big game by any of the top TE's we've faced.

Exactly and with a good FS I expect him to play very well. People act like he's a scrub but he graded out in the top 10 at safety last year and when he leaves the game the secondary is much worse. Plus he has great athleticism AND he's young AND there is no one on the team to replace him.

I think that if you pair him with a Safety who can play, he will be much better. He's trying to cover up a multitude of mistakes and in doing this, he gets himself in poor position to make plays. I think he could be much improved if we just fixed the other side of the Safety position.

Huff and Sensabaugh would be ideal....
Agreed. I also like Huff with Whitner but a lot of people around here don't seem to fond of the latter.

Not too concerned.

Can't imagine a worse pair than last year.

If he comes back, so be it. If not, find someone else.

was not a fan. You really have to question his football intuition as he consistantly takes poor angles. I think Sensy is a decent player if you put him next to stud Safety. That being said..he is not a good fit and I expect Dallas to look elsewhere. Jerry needs to trust Ryan here and let him completely rebuild the position as this has been a source of under-achievment for too long.

Get a safety who can make reads and give help over the top and the whole defense will transform.

He's a JAG. Thanks for nothing, Sensy. Go steal someone else's money.

What did Sensabaugh have...five interceptions last season? Heck, he and Huff would be a real pair of safeties for once in the past ten years.

I'm perfectly fine with him returning as long as we upgrade the other safety position. I have zero interest in seeing Gerald back there with Ball again.
