I didn’t think I would watch it but I did. HBO does a great job with these documentary type shows. As I watch it I am struck by one thing in particular. This camp is way too relaxed for a team coming off 6-10. Way, way too relaxed. I truly think this is the not serious about winning football culture coming through.

Anyone else see this or think I am wrong?

Havent seen an episode yet, even though I have them on DVR.
I havent watched the episodes basically because I dont want to actually realize that this franchise is run by morons,,, thats some sad honest truth.

Is it too relaxed? I can't tell from watching the show. They don't focus too much on the details of practice and what kind of grind the players are going through. It's more about the human interest stories....someone's mom or kid, playing cards with the mailroom clerk,. and Jerry's breakfast sandwich, Jerry's helicopter, Jerry's palace.

Oh, and this team has no winning culture to come through, so there's that

Agree....

I understand your point, and you may be right. The Jones empire always coddles its players.

But… To be fair, what we’re seeing in Hard Knocks is a one hour edited slice of what’s happening. The producers want to put together an hour of entertainment, not a realistic view of what’s happening. Like you WJ, I suspect this team is always too comfortable. But I’m not sure what we’re seeing in HK is a realistic picture.

Agree....

I have to say, though, that I have enjoyed watching the show for the human interactions that otherwise I'd never know about. The mailroom clerk is a third generation clerk for the team? How cool is that. And the stars on the team are cool enough to play cards with him. That's great. Digg's kid? Love him. The fly through sequence of Jerry World? Jaw dropping.
I also respect that these are professional athletes playing a brutal game, and that there is a level of performance--and pain--that is beyond my experience.

It's just that experience has shown that it hasn't added up to a winning environment for a while.

Agree. They're having too much fun. I can't stand the atmosphere of the place. The culture of the 90s is completely gone.

Moose talked about how Aikman would literally throw fits in practice if it wasn't perfect. You don't have that anymore. You don't see anybody that has that type of leadership quality.

Aikman wasn't the best player on the offense. Smith, Irvin, and Allen were all better. But everyone knew who the leader was and he didn't care to hurt feelings. That's something we've not had since he left. Romo wasn't that and Dak isn't that either.

Those hardcore practices are a thing of the past, for all teams. The only time it gets that way is during live hitting drills and team session. The live portion of practice is a fraction of what it used to be.
That mailroom clerk segment and Diggs kid were great. I also enjoyed Alarcons family. I am from Monterrey and really hope this kid makes it.

The work environment is something to consider when it comes to the teams lack of success.

Idk if camp itself is too soft or not. They don’t spend much time on actual practices.

I don't disagree, but keep in mind the CBA these days restricts the amount of contact, padded practices, etc.

Between being liable for concussions and the importance of offense for fantasy interest, the league would play touch ball if they could get away with it.

Its funny you say that. My wife watched last weeks episode with me and kept making comments like "see, that's why they can't win anything, they're playing too much" lol. I'm kinda up in the air on that because you gotta make it fun from time to time...

They are feeding the players Combos during meetings. Let that sink in.....

The GM is an Ego-Maniac fan.
The HC is a Yes man.
Our most expensive players are average to above average at best with the possible exception of Zeke.
26 years of losing have left its mark and its business as usual at the Star.
The team is worth appx 6.5 Billion.
Why wouldn't they be relaxed?

its not an accurate representation of the hours in the gym, in recovery therapy, in preperation meetings...etc. There are so many many more things that go into the training camp than they can fit in just a 30 min segement. Let's be realistic here, there really arent conclusions that can be drawn one way or another from a one hour made for tv show highlighting personality components of an nfl team.

I couldn't help recalling how Jimmy Johnson used to talk about the C'boys organization being conducted in a "country club" atmosphere. o_O

According to his commentary, everyone, including the staff and the players, were all being chummy and "palsy walsie" with one another.

If someone is a member of a country club, that's all fine and dandy but in Jimmy's world, there's just a time to get tough and demanding. ;)

Just like Last year MM only allows media to cover certain parts of Camp and No tweeting or video during team or 7 on 7 drills until after practice and it cannot be zoomed out to give indication of play. Im sure he was pretty adamant with HardKnocks to do the same, so that is why your not getting as much teams stuff and more fluff stuff with players. I watched the rams last year and it was way more 7/7 11/11 stuff. I think you have MM telling them to not focus on the team and more on individuals.

Blame the NFL, it is just not Dallas. All the rules have been relaxed, as to how many padded practices, and hitting and all that.
But how can to determine that from the show. They really have not shown a lot of the practices.

I got the same vibe but like someone else posted, we don't get to see the practices.
