if it has already been asked ...i apologize.

very glad to get jason as our offensive coordinator by the way.

now we need a head coach and defensive coordinator... among others, but these are the main ones if you know what i mean.

my question is this...

do we stand a chance in hell of landing one of the top defensive coordinators from another team to be hired in the same capacity here?

how often do coordinators go from one nfl team to another without a promotion?

2 questions..sorry.

Its hard to because most are under contract and the team can deny permission to talk to them, unless its for a HC job. But.. Rivera's contract in Chicgo is up after the superbowl.. so it would not be un thinkable to get him in here.

Well, yes and no. Jerry has been creative before and thats why now you can't through the DC/asst HC tag to make it work anymore. If one of the DCs would come to Dallas it would have to be as HC unless the team recieved picks or some hard cash and I don't think Jerry is at that point yet.

I'll just tell you that I hold out a slim hope that maybe the Cowboys will hire Ron Rivera DC of the Bears. But it don't look good now for that.

I'm don't really know how often it happens, prolly not often w/o a promotion but it happens from time to time when they make a lateral move with the asst. HC title attached. I don't look for it to happen with the Cowboys this time around.:)

Or why we'd need Garrett if Norv, as HC, was the de facto offensive coordinator.

Nah, don't be sorry lane. I was feebily attempting humor at your expense.;)

There's been a lot of names thrown around. Gibbs,(not Joe) Phillips, Rivera to name a few. There's some contract issues thrown in the mix. Nothing in concrete as of yet.

I was thinking the same thing. If Garrett is going to be the next big thing then having Norv here would be useless. Norv could help Garrett but not much going on there personality wise to be a good HC.

i am with you guys, the speculation of Norv coming to Dallas makes ZERO sense to me. He would bring nothing with him.

Can you hire a DC away from another team to be your DC if you slap the Asst. HC/DC title on him?

Nope, not anymore. Now, to hire any assistant away from another team, it must be for a HC job unless the team losing the asst is just generous and allows them to go (as in Garrett's case).

That's my whole problem with hiring Garrett as HC. Who would fix our defense then? I don't know of any whiz-bang linebacker coaches, etc. who would be ready to step up to such a big DC job as this one. Maybe a guy like Singletary, but he's supposed to be more of a motivator than an Xs and Os guy. I like Bowles, but I think these defensive players need a new voice rather than someone already on staff.

This is why I'm rooting for Phillips, Rivera, or Ryan -- or even Lovie as a longshot.
