Seriously? Looking like another first day linebacker?

Not to get lost in the all of the negativity and doomsday mentality, but, yeah... Thomas is gone, and the starting inside linebacker week one of next year is pretty much looking like Bobby Carpenter, unless we burn another first day pick on a linebacker. Zach was probably too small from the get go with James playing small and Jay, Canty, and, Spears not bringing the biggest of beef for a 3-4 line. That makes Burnett also pretty small at that position and either the draft or another free agent acquisition necessary. I Think teams will figure out to grind us on the run again next year force us to over commit.

I don't want to get off on a Parcells thing here, but uh, thanks for Ware, would have been nice to get a big time LB with about 8 less draft picks. Its like playing Roulette and putting a chip on all 32 positions.

I actually wouldnt be shocked with Burnett and Thomas likely gone if Dallas does in fact use another high pick on a linebacker. They're going to need a starter and depth at the ILB position so that really isn't a stretch to think they'll go that way.

What's wrong with another first day linebacker? I think it's a great thing.

We need a first day safety. Someone that can cover and can hit. He doesn't have to be a "ball-hawk" and be in on every play, but he's got to be a great tackler and good in zone coverage.

Yep, that's another thing we need for sure.

The great thing is, both of those position should help our special teams as well.

I'm not one for bringing in aging vets, but Ray Lewis will be a FA and I'd welcome him w/ open arms. He'll be 34 when training camp starts, but I think he can still play at a high level. The only problem I see is the # of years he'll want.

He'll sorta be a stop gap, but a quality one.

Don't worry, Jerry will throw the bank at a washed up name like Ray Lewis and all will be well.

You must address the following this offseason regarding players

1. A SS or FS that can cover
2. A huge NT that will plug the middle
3. A decent backup to Romo
4. Backup OG and OT

I would love to see Dallas pick up a young, vicious SS that makes the other guy wonder where he is instead of where the ball is. Guys like that are hard to come by it seems.

And 1 ILB via FA and another 1-2 LBs in the Draft.

I would say that your OT should be one you want to start if possible. But I agree with all you've said.

Ray Lewis would provide leadership that this D needs. But ILB, S and OL remain our most pressing needs.

BP drafted Ware/Burnett first day. Bradie James 2nd day.

But if it makes you feel better go ahead and exagerrate.

Pick one of the two in free agency:
Ray Lewis at LB
Dawkins at Safety (if the Eagles let him go)

I don't care if they're old. They're leaders.

Ray is more expensive, but he's been consistently at or near pro bowl level all season.

Dawkins has clearly lost a step, but he still shows up in big in most big games. May still be pricey due to name recognition.

If I had to choose, it would be Ray-Ray.

But Dallas still needs to draft at both positions.

Folks, if you run a 3-4 there are FOUR lb on the field most of the time.

That means you end up drafting a lot of LBs.
