I had to read the posts last week about the Cowboys going 0 – 16 so get ready for some sunshine. Here are the reasons for optimism in the big picture.
– Dallas hasn’t had any major injuries. Older players tend to have more injuries than younger players. As one of the youngest teams in the NFL, the odds are in our favor.
– The OL is the key to our offense and it will improve when Frederick comes back (in 2 – 4 games). Conner Williams was holding his own against a good Giants DL and that is a win for a rookie. He should improve with playing time.
– Dak will develop better rapport with the new WRs as the season progresses. He has it with Beasley and developed it quickly with Deonte Thompson. He needs to develop his timing with Allen Hurns (who only has 5 targets in 2 games) and Michael Gallup - who is clearly making the normal rookie adjustment but has the potential to be the best WR on the team by the end of the season. Also the TEs have done nothing, so any contribution will be an improvement.
– The DL is deep and talented - and it will be better in two weeks when David Irving returns and Maliek Collins get into playing shape. Dorance Armstrong would have started for us several years ago, we have the depth to ride out injuries better than past year.
– Same for the LBs, we have four starters and a very good backup for 2.5 starting slots.
– The CBs are playing really well and Kris Richard is obviously a huge addition. Jourdan Lewis is high quality depth and a guy that will push Anthony Brown for playing time.
