I had to read the posts last week about the Cowboys going 0 – 16 so get ready for some sunshine. Here are the reasons for optimism in the big picture.

1 – Dallas hasn’t had any major injuries. Older players tend to have more injuries than younger players. As one of the youngest teams in the NFL, the odds are in our favor.

2 – The OL is the key to our offense and it will improve when Frederick comes back (in 2 – 4 games). Conner Williams was holding his own against a good Giants DL and that is a win for a rookie. He should improve with playing time.

3 – Dak will develop better rapport with the new WRs as the season progresses. He has it with Beasley and developed it quickly with Deonte Thompson. He needs to develop his timing with Allen Hurns (who only has 5 targets in 2 games) and Michael Gallup - who is clearly making the normal rookie adjustment but has the potential to be the best WR on the team by the end of the season. Also the TEs have done nothing, so any contribution will be an improvement.

4 – The DL is deep and talented - and it will be better in two weeks when David Irving returns and Maliek Collins get into playing shape. Dorance Armstrong would have started for us several years ago, we have the depth to ride out injuries better than past year.

5 – Same for the LBs, we have four starters and a very good backup for 2.5 starting slots.

6 – The CBs are playing really well and Kris Richard is obviously a huge addition. Jourdan Lewis is high quality depth and a guy that will push Anthony Brown for playing time.

I'm sold on this defense, the question for me is just when is this offense going to kick it out of neutral.

The only guys that can really do that are Linehan and Dak - one hasn't changed for a year now and the other's not going to change.

Garrett teams tend to play down to their opponents. And i despise it
That’s true, to a degree. They did fine in 2016 and now we have a better defense, with a better play caller, to carry us. Plus, I just can’t get over how much we lucked out playing these O lines, I really can’t. The next 3 games should be similar to the Gnats game defensively. The offense? that’s my main concern but regardless our defense should keep us in it and be absolutely crushing these O lines and QB’s. Hell, Wilson has been sacked more than Eli, that’s impressive!

I have learned not to get my hopes up man. Garrett ruined any excitement I had for the season when i saw his face again in the draft room lol

On the negative side........we still have Garrett.

Oh trust me, I started off the season less optimistic than last year and have said mutltiple times I’m stayimg somewhat pessimistic until proven otherwise. As the season goes on and we get more wins then my attitude will slowly change.

Put it this way, I fully expect us to win the next 3 games simoly because our defense is improved but mainly due to how bad the opposing teams O lines are. Even we go 4-1, I’m not getting my hopes up until I see how we do against teams who have at least a top 10-15 O line. We just beat an 0-2 team by 7 points, and the next 3 teams are all 0-2 as well. I wouldn’t consider those wins anything to get too excited about other than a flashy record.

Garrett lover!!!

Nothing is set but he is working out already. And they would have IR'ed him if he was going to be out more than 8 games, that is where my estimate on his return comes from.

No, they would have IR'ed him if they had a definite idea that he'd be out longer. At the time, I expect they had no idea when he would be ready but figured that even if it was just for game 8 that his presence would certainly be worth more than the dime a dozen guys we cut.

Good stuff. I felt better after reading it and I think they're all valid points. It will be interesting you see how that #7 goes following this game.

Guess what trumps all of that?

Jerry Jones...

He was practicing right up until the day he was diagnosed. IMO they knew he wouldn't be out very long.
