Shamarko Thomas could be Bob Sanders for us

Sanders flourished in the Tampa 2 under Dungy in Indy. I believe Thomas could have a similar NFL career especially if he plays under someone like Kiffin. Look at their combine numbers:

Bob Sanders 2004
Ht- 5083
Wt- 204
40- 4.35
225 reps- 15
Vert- 41.5"
Broad- 10'8"

Shamarko Thomas 2013
Ht- 5087
Wt- 213
40- 4.42
225 reps- 28
Vert- 40.5"
Broad- 11'1"

Thomas is my pet cat at safety right now. On top of testing well, I also like his character. He is a leader on and off the field. He lost both of his parents in less than a year while in college and became a parent figure for his 5 younger siblings. Here's the story from Sports Illustrated:

I want Thomas.

I am a huge Vaccaro fan, but I see other needs in the 1st, plus, I doubt he will be there at 18 anyway. I also like Rambo quite a bit. However, you cannot measure heart and will......IMO, Thomas possesses huge amounts of both.

Ideally I would love to get Thomas and Rambo.....though, the reality of that happening is slim to none.

Yes he could be, he could also be injured just like Bob Sanders. A guy that small at a physical position like safety just won't last. I do like him though, if he can stay healthy he has a shot to be a hell of a player.

Thomas played in 48 games in his college career, his durability doesn't scare me much. One key difference in their combine numbers is their bench numbers; Sanders had 15, Thomas had 28. I believe Thomas has a better physical structure than Sanders did which will help him out.

Love Shamarko Thomas but he is a strong safety.. Which is also what Church is. I think what the Cowboys are looking for is more of a free safety and someone with a lot of range and coverage ability like Vaccaro or even Swearinger to an extent (Played CB as well). If they thought they could make it work with both Church and Thomas starting I would be all for it but they both are more box/run stopping safeties. Kid is definitely fast so it is not crazy to think he could transition to free safety.

If he is there in round 3 I take him unless Swearinger is there too

So what if Church is a SS, he is coming off a major injury. Insurance and depth is a beautiful thing.

I agree we need a FS, someone like Vaccaro, Rambo, Swearinger, Thomas (FSU).....but we should also look at the SS spot as well.

I would like to find a way to add a couple of extra picks....this way we can adequately address the OL, DL, and S positions in this draft, as well as potentially get another RB and WR.

I completely agree about getting some depth at that spot but we have a lot of holes on this team I think when you are talking about a 3rd round pick you are talking about hopefully a potential starter.

And I agree I really hope we add some more picks somehow so we can get some young talented depth on this team

Shamarko Thomas is built like a tank. Imagine a tank playing safety.

I think his body would be able to hold up much better than Bob Sanders. He is much stronger and thicker than Sanders was. I'm not sure what round he will go in, but I would like to see this guy on the Boys. He is someone you can root for.

Interesting to see if anyone knows if Sanders had any injury history in college.

would instantly have a GREAT nickname...'the shark!"
can hear the jaws theme music playing at the stadium every time he levels a WR

It would have to be the "shark too". We already had a safety called that.

Shamarko Thomas is one of my pet cats. This is one of the sleeper safeties of the draft. He had a good combine.

I love Thomas. If he's sitting there in the 4th, I say take him, but not earlier.

He would be terrific on special teams and help add the physical element to our defense that we so need (IMO).

Good description.

When a guy packs 213 lbs onto a 5-8 body and does 28 reps in the bench, Tank is probably a good description.
