22. v/CLE Troy CB Leodis McKelvin

good-sized CB w/ excellent speed and burst, is aggressive against both the run and pass, excellent punt returner, averaged 17.3 yards per punt w/ 3 run back for TDs in '07, immediate #3 corner and starting punt returner

28. ECU RB Chris Johnson

all-purpose back who is compact, has legitimate 4.3 speed, great burst and explosion, is elusive, and slides well across the LOS to get through holes, excellent cut-back ability, is a great receiver who could line up in the slot, draws visions of Byron Westbrook, also an excellent kick-off returner, the perfect compliment to Marion Barber, and a possible franchise back in a couple of years

2. Michigan State WR Devin Thomas

good-sized WR w/ good speed, is a playmaker, can stretch the field vertically, may need 3 years to truly develop into a weapon, but has #1 potential, and would be well-worth the wait

3. San Jose State CB Dwight Lowery

tall CB w/ great anticipation and ball skills, breaks well on the ball, is very good when he keeps the play in front of him, so would fit in nicely in our zone-coverage scheme

4. Tennessee S Jonathan Hefney

ultra-quick and explosive S, breaks really well on the ball and ball-carrier, is on the small-side, but is not afraid to stick his helmet into the action, matches up very well w/ slot receivers, would provide immediate dividends on kick-coverage units

5. Applacian State WR Dexter Jackson

smaller WR w/ excellent quicks, is a threat to stretch teams vertically, and has great RAC potential, came up really big on the big stage against Michigan, also an excellent punt returner

6. Georgia C/OG Fernando Velasco

big, 325lb mountain of a man, strong, has an excellent hand-punch, is tough to move once he gets his hands on you, possesses adequate quickness, also could be a good in-line drive blocker at OG

7. Ole Miss RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis

squatty back who runs low, possessing a great center of gravity, is shifty, has good burst, is good picking up the blitz

I don't think that's a bad effort Bob. But is that kid from Troy really worth the 22nd pick?

I like the choice of two corners in day 1.

I question if we will even draft a safety. If we retain Hamlin, I'm guessing not.

I could see an ILB or another OL in round 4.

I believe he is

Scott Wright has him ranked as his #2 cornerback, he's a guy I really respect when it comes to the draft

we might lose Keith Davis, so we're going to need a backup SS, and we really need to improve our kickoff and punt-coverage teams

but just imagine the coverage possibilities we could have w/ a safety who could match up w/ slot receivers? you may be right, Hefney in the 4th would be a luxury pick

I wouldn't mind taking UCLA DE Bruce Davis in the 4th

Teddy Brushi part 2

I like it as well. Serious Speed injection on both sides of the ball. I'm not sold on McKelvin, but I like all of the speed in this mock.

that's really good, love the Brown pick

Tracy Porter would be a tight selection also

not familiar w/ Geno Hayes

He played WLB for Florida State. He had 80 tackles, 17.5 of them for loss and 5 sacks. He's a little on the light side so he will have to gain a lil weight but he is the best cover lber in the draft.

Given the good press he's received lately, is there a chance Lowery will be off the board by the time we pick in the third?

this draft is deep in corners, and Lowery has a speed issue working against him

he could, but I can also envision him being there

Really like this mock, although I would take Felix Jones instead of Johnson and Josh Barrett, SS, Arizona State instead of Jonathan Hefneyas I assume we might lose Davis

I Really like your mock Bob ....

How about something like this:

22. Leodis McKelvin
28 Trade Down for another 2nd and 3rd
2a Tracy Porter
2b Steve Slaton
3a Owen Schmitt
3b OL
4 Bruce Davis
5 Dexter Jackson
6 Tommy Blake
7 BPA

Gets us a pair of athletic CBs. McKelvin gives us someone who can come in and compete immediately. Porter is athletic, fast, and can stick to his guy a la Newman. Slaton gives us a change of pace back and a home run threat. Schmitt gives us a nice blocking FB who can also get some carries. Bruce Davis...I like the idea of converting him to a LBer. And I threw in Blake in case we move a LBer in the offseason....we can try and groom him into an OLB.

I know people will complain about two LBers and 2 CBs....but Ellis is near the end, and we'll only have Spencer and Ware outside. Blake could help. And if we do something with Carpenter, we could put Davis inside (though Id rather not move Carpenter....in which case, we can go elsewhere with the Davis pick)

I don't like the idea of having 2 1sts, yet trading down for a 2nd and 3rd, also hate the idea of taking a FB that high

like the idea of drafting Slaton in the 2nd, if we don't end up taking a RB in the 1st

don't think Blake slides down that far, but it's not inconceivable

I really like Porter though

This draft does not contain FB Owen Schmitt in it...therefore it is disqualified.

Just kidding.

Not a bad mock draft.

After seeing McKelvin today in the Senior Bowl practices. I am starting to worry he may go well before #22. Especially, if runs a really good forty at the combine. But, let me say after seeing him today I love me some Leodis.

Example: those little 10 yard out routes that Jacque Reeves always seems to lay off too much then makes the tackle, but not the play AFTER the reciever has already secured the first down. Well, today against Limas Sweed, McKelvin gives a little cushion and when Limas makes his break to the sideline, McKelvin closes the gap fast and when the ball arrives is there in time to knock the ball away NOT just shove the reciever out of bounds after he has 10 yards.

He looks the part too and was very candid in talking with Mike Mayock about what he needs to improve upon, sounds like he is a hard worker and want to get better. Plus, he returns punts. Can we just hide all his tapes now like the Steelers did in the seventies with John Stallworth, so only the Cowboys know about him. Seriously though, McKelvin looks good and I'd take that mock draft all day and twice on Sunday.
