Shanahan and our OL?

We were able to get Montrae Holland from Denver because he had gotten too big to play effectively in their offense, but he was great for us. Most of Denver's OL are lighter, more athletic guys while our OL is the exact opposite. Our OL is loaded with pro bowl caliber players with contracts that match, so getting rid of them isn't an option. What happens if Shanahan becomes HC? Trying to force our current line to play in a ZBS would most likely turn out quite disastrous. I would also be rather ashamed if we started cut blocking like Denver.

My guess is that he implements his system and we start finding players who fit. A lot of our issues center on the o-line. We need new blood there.

I am sure Shannahan can adjust, I dont view this as a deal-breaker.

The problem is that most of our O-line have large, long-term contracts.

You just cant release players like that without major cap hits.

We are kinda stuck with them for awhile.

I'm right with you on your last point ...

I'd absolutely hate to see cut blocking become a dominant feature of the Dallas OL.

Yea, but you're not going to rebuild an O-line overnight. The Cowboys would be, basically, starting over with FIVE new O-linemen. By the time the O-line is rebuilt, you've already wasted approx 3 years ( '09, '10, '11, ) and pray that by '12 the O-line has gelled and it's hitting on all cylinders.

That's why this Shanahan thing doesn't make sense to me unless he's willing to adjust his philosophy.

My predictions Cowboys sign Marcus McNeil, Shawne Merriman, and everybody they want to come in and contribute right away...

A good side benefit of a zone blocking scheme is that you can sign JAGs and they're serviceable in that system.

Agreed ... don't need to use high draft picks on OL. Get some cheap system guys in place.

Regardless of whether Shanny comes here or not, we have to re-evaluate our OL. Flo just isn't getting it done.

We need to consider alternatives.

He's supposed to be a professional football coach. He can adjust.
